Im not sure if anyone can help but im bery interested in a trick ive seen where 6 cards(3 red,3 black) are in the order black, red, black, red, black, red then they are laid out in 2 rows and turn over they become red, red, red and black, black, black like so:
(KEY: [R]-RED CARD,[B]-BLACK CARD)

before they are laid out:
[R][B][R][B][R][B]

Then as if by magic when they are laid out 1st row, then 2nd they become:

/1st row/ /2nd row/
[R] [B]
[R] [B]
[R] [B]

I would love to know how this is done can you tell me please or tell me who to ask about this trick?

-thanks,

The trick you seem to be describing sounds like a routeine performed by "Rene Lavand" which is called "it cannot be done any slower", an absolutly astonding effect when performed correctly. And just to top it off Rene only has 1 hand to do the trick with.

I cant blatantly just tell you how to do the trick because that what secrets are but theres enough info for you to find a decent book with maybee that trick in.

That kind of trick goes under the general blanket of "oil and Water" and so if you ever see this term you know it is refering to that trick or a similar one.

To be honest there is an "oil and Water" on nearly any dvd or video that has card magic as it is an extremely potent type of trick.

If I remember correctly the one you described sounds like David Regal's "Perfectly Oiled" which is on DVD2 of his Premise, Power and Participation set (thoroughly recommended btw) but as other posters have pointed out there are numerous versions of slightly different variations by many people.

Hmmm...

And curiously similar to Anthony Owen's SOBW, detailed in his book 'Some Cards' - which is rather good.

Oh, and by the way - we don't reveal secrets here. And if we did, we'd be naughty. And naughty people get a cyber-slap.

You've now got plenty of tips on how to get the knowledge to perform this effect. I suggest you do what we've all done - and go get the know-how by parting with time and effort.

Indeed, there is no hard evidence of a FIRM founder of the oil and water routine, but as far as I know - it was Paul Curry who wrote the definitive routine of the genre, "out of this world". The trick that fooled Churchill?

Although this IS a little misleading, as the routine Out of this World is quite different from the one being talked about here - as it usually utilises a whole deck of cards and involves the spectator.

Talking of Paul Curry - I believe "Magicians Magic" is back in print again. Amongst other things I believe this includes OOTW -

I have heard some very good things about this book.

It's a Dover Publication - so is available from Here at $12.95

It is also available at Amazon for around £12 - the only thing here is that they say it will take 4-6 weeks.
