I feel there should be a new section with the above title. Anybody that wants to find out how certain magic tricks work, would be able to see and post in that forum. No request for help telling them how to do something should be denied.

It should be made so that as soon as the first reply comes in, the thread automatically deletes itself. The rest of us could then ignore that section. It should stop these posts on the other sections, easing the Mods workload.

The other option is that for anybody under 50 posts, as soon as the word "how" is detected in a post, a power surge is directed at the users computer.

It wouldn't stop them, but they would be able to have their own section. If the thread deleted itself, how many would have the brain cells to realise?
Lets face it, if a section says that they can find out magic secrets, they will head straight for it. Maybe if this section existed, we could come up with some convincing sounding answers, which we could paste as a reply. No need for other comments, as they would believe they have the answers and not worry about posting elsewhere.

I don't agree with warning them before sending 50,000 volts down, for two reasons.

First, why give them warning?

second, why only 50,000 volts?

PS, hope the mods read the text, not just the title. Otherwise I think I may be banned!!

I think either:

1) an age limit
2) a small test before accepting new members

would reduce the amount of you tube idiots we get on here.

The idea of a test has been brought up a couple of times since I've joined :p
It'll however stop newbies who really want to learn (like myself) from joining, which is a bad thing!

Though, I wonder if phpBB has said voltage plugin...

A test would sort out those who are genuinely interested in magic and those who aren't. For instance kids who ask how to do something and are disappointed when they are pointed in the direction of a decent book, preferring instead to spend their money on flash looking decks they can do nothing with. Also people that put up polls asking which Ellusionist item they should buy next. This hasn't happened for a while, thank Buddha.

I think that idiots looking for exposure are usually given short shrift on TM anyway. We can form an inpenetrable wall of sarcasm when we put our minds to it.

I think it could be a laugh. Whenever someone posts requesting answers, before it is spotted by a mod, people give really stupid answers, for example:

David Copperfield's Flying Illusion: Its a load of midgets with hairdryers.

And I remember some idiot saying that Electric touch was done by strapping a negative ion generator to your inner thigh! How stupid can you get?

It could still be funny to see what people come up with, if we give them say, 1 day to reply, before it gets locked and binned.

All the best,
