Panic by Aaron Fisher

The Effect
They came. They saw. They vanished.

The four Kings are shown and placed into your back pocket. The remainder of the deck is spread cleanly, and then it happens. The deck instantly vanishes in your hands -- leaving only four cards. The cards are shown to be the Kings. And where's the rest of the pack? In your back pocket. No sleights. No funny moves.

This is what real magic would look like.

Cost
$24.95 From www.theory11.com

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
3, the couple sleights there are in the routine are extremely easy though, I'm just using the guidelines.

Review
alright, first I'm going to take the add copy and just pick it apart.

They came. They saw. They vanished.

does that make sense? whatever, the vanishing part is true at least.

The four Kings are shown and placed into your back pocket.

Yes, it's EXTREMELY clean. You have the deck in your hand, and then you take the top four cards off of the deck, and put it in your back pocket. It's truly amazing.

The remainder of the deck is spread cleanly, and then it happens.

Okay, how do you spread a deck? Because if you look at the picture, I doubt that that is how you spread a deck. He does give a couple reasons to spread it that way though, so that it might be a reasonable vanish

The deck instantly vanishes in your hands -- leaving only four cards. The cards are shown to be the Kings.

Very true. You spread the deck out, you push it in, give it a little squeeze (or just push it in and show the four cards. And they’re the four kings. That’s super clean.
And where's the rest of the pack? In your back pocket.

You got it right there. You can even have a spec take out the cards from your back pocket…
No sleights. No funny moves.

No sleights, but one funny move in the beginning, but that can be taken care of easily.

This is what real magic would look like.

Well, frankly, I don’t think a real magician would be doing a card vanish.

Overall
The disc has a few different ways of doing the effect, the first being the most practical, and best.
It also has a bunch of tips, some interesting stuff on magic theory itself.

The problem is, the DVD is totally aimed at, as with Ellusionist, teen boys. In fact they even say stuff like “when you’re showing this to you’re mom and dad… when you’re hanging with your friends at the mall…” and stuff like that. So really feels like you’re being played down to. The production is decent, but all that zooming in and out can get you dizzy.

Performance: I showed this to my dad (what can I say, I’m a teen boy.) and he did really enjoy it. The set up is 2 seconds, and you can do it extremely easily.

My rating: 8.5/10
Probably worth the money

Thanks for the review. Apart from showing it to your dad (which I am NOT saying derogatorily), is this something you see yourself performing on a regular basis? Also, is the deck/are the 4 kings examinable? Thanks for the review and the insights.

I can definitely see myself performing this on a regular basis. It's simple, fun, and a good effect. The deck is perfectly examinable, the 4 kings however... that's another story. And the deck is only examinable at the end, not when you're spreading it out. Another oversight.

great review harry. very honest and funny.

you can't really "show the deck" when you start this trick. it's very angular. best as an opener so you can walk on (or walk up to someone) with the "deck" already in your hand.

also the way that they spread it out is very awkward and I have never in my life seen a deck spread that way, before this trick. oh well...

I don't know this one but I do have Aaron's Bicycle Thief which is a nice little tick although it is also angle sensitive in some parts.

Very clever thinking but not necessarily practical but what I thought the trick does demonstrate is how you can get away with some ballsy moves.

With Bicycle Thief I think it's a trick well worth getting for the joy and expereince although you most probably won't use it that much performance wise.

They came, saw, vanished may be similar?

Nice review Henry

Nice review. I'm glad you pointed out the tone of the teaching as I would have been infuriated to have someone talk to me like that!
It seems that E and Theory's stuff is not really aimed at professionals or performers but people who want 'cool things' to take to school, so thanks for your honesty there.
The effect does sound similar to Bicycle Thief. Would be interesting if someone compared the two?
