Website that NEEDS to be shut down

[edited by mods]

A friend of mine found this, and emailed it to me, stating 'hahah dan, now I can see how you do all your tricks'

I looked at the site, and initially though its alright, you'll have to pay for membership or subscription...but no, its the opposite, the people who upload the videos (Via a site called rever or something like that) get PAID to show these exposure videos, AND the more that they get viewed, the more money the uploaders get paid :-O - the creator of the site must be making a fair bit, cos there are like 25 'teachers' who are featured, and he adds like 5-15 videos a day :-O

This is awful, and I have emailed him stating my concern, about exposure etc, but have had no reply, its been over a week :@

It gets worse...from what I can gather, by looking at some of these 'instructional vidoes' aka people in the bedroom shodily attempting to do magic, I see that they are exposing VERY GOOD, and quite pricey tricks, clearly that they themselves have learned from youtube or similar sites - I have just purchased and almost perfected 'Revolver' from PenguinMagic...now I see a 13 year old 'teacher' exposing my trick, and getting paid for it - the video is like 2 mins long (trick and explenation) is of awful quality (low res webcam style) and he cant even do the trick...yet, he is getting credit from the site, by being praised (in the form of cash) for uploading the cr*p tutorial

ARGH !!!!

Its driven me crazy, and we have to be able to do something about it...right?

Dan

I don't get why someone would buy an effect (ok maybe they've pirated them but at some point it has to have been bought) then freely share the secret with non magicians. I certainly wouldn't, I'm far too stingy for a start.

I know one of my friends went on there and learned some tricks I perform like twisting the Ace's.

I wish I knew how to hack websites or knew someone who could.

I suspect that they think that they are getting their purchase price back and covering their costs

Perhaps there should be an age limit for buying some tricks

what can we do...its a fair point, the website owner clearly doesnt care about maic (like he claims to) as he is ruining the whole idea - AND making money by doing so...I'm sure he read my email, and just disregarded it...

grrr, its frustration more than anything, knowing that before I even dream of performing a trick I want it to look flawless...these 'youtube bedroom' magicians clearly dont even care...

I think you should remove the link in your post, as I don't think we should promote the site!!!

What can you do? Well the simple answer is nothing, but in return you get nothing. So if it really bugs you into action then you have to go in pretty smart and figure out what you can do and how to do it.

Now for the part you are probably not going to like. The fact that your friend went there and stated 'hahahaha' means he went on line to find effects that you do so you will not be able to 'put one over on him' this is indicitive of your performance. Judging from your post you are challenging your friends rather then entertaining them. I haven't seen your performance so I could be wrong. I'm just pointing out a possibility so don't go getting all defensive, or get defensive, no skin off my nose. Just something to think about. Other thing you can do is stop performing for your friend, eventually they will forget about it. The other obvious thing is stop pointing the site out to others...

Have you noticed that all the shoddy youtube exposure videos, and the people that watch them, are all under 20, never done a paid gig in their life and never perform outside of their family and the playground?
You're right - there should be an age limit for purchasing magic effects as the only idiots that seem keen on exposure are these obnoxious brats trying to prove how clever they are.

It makes you pro-abortion.

I agree.
And a good book would teach them more and cost less.

Why get all excited about any ONE site that exposes magic?

After all, there are dozens of sites on the Internet that do it.

And let's not forget some of the top names in magic also have exposed tricks: Dai Vernon, Harry Blackstone Sr., Tom Mullica, Mac King, Penn and Teller, etc.

And what about public libraries, where anyone with a library card can walk in and check out a book containing dozens of magic secrets.

And then there are magic magazines, which -- weekly, monthly, or quarterly -- give away secrets from the cost of a subscription.

And let's not forget magic shops themselves, where anyone with a few bucks can buy the secret to just about any magic trick.

And then there are magic clubs, where secrets are freely exposed.

And don't forget the worst offenders of all in the world of exposure: The bad magicians!

And . . . but you get the idea!

cheers,
