The Blushing Card

Postby Danteuk » Dec 24th, '07, 22:31

My first post.
I was bitten by the magic bug a few months ago when the company I work for had it's annual user group meeting at the Magic Circle headquarters in London. So as part of that I did presentations and product demos ( computer software ) on stage - nothing to do with magic. But, at lunch a couple of the magicians did some close up magic with a small groups of us and I chosen for a couple of card sleights. This was enough to get me hooked and to learn how it was done. I've since performed the same sleights for friends and family.

Anyway, last night I had an idea for a trick - I've no idea if this has been done before or not ( I suspect it must have been but I've not seen it yet )

I call it the Blushing Card, I've only performed it twice so far and both times I got a good reaction.

So here is the effect:

Victim chooses a card and returns it to the pack, victim then is offered the pack and told to turn it face up and deal down the cards one at a time and look and each card but not to give anything away when they deal down their card, the magician will stop when he detects it's their card, that card is moved to one side and left face up, the victim continues though to the end of the pack. The magician then explains that the victim did a good job of not revealing their card but that the card gave it's self away by blushing.
The magician asks the victim to turn over the deck, showing it has a blue back, then to turn over the chosen card, revealing that it now has a red back. The red backed card is replaced on the deck and handed back to the magician, the magician places his hand over the pack and explains he's changing the red card back to a blue card, after lifting his hand he reveals that the top card is now blue again, he hands the card to the victim and they see that the next card is also blue and that the handed card is their chosen card.

Any know if this has another name and know who beat me to it? ( If not I claim it as my own :) )

Regards,
D

It's a nice idea, but as you say a popular one. Tony Binarelli's "Lips" is both inexpensive and has a nice twist on the end. Might be worth checking out perhaps!

Um, the "Lips" sounds good but I think I prefer not to ruin/lose a card at this stage, I've only just bought my first half a dozen packs of Bicycle cards. My version leaves my blue deck complete and ready for my next trick( the red card is slipped into my pocket and returned to my red deck later. ).
