A New Category?

Postby Jing » Dec 1st, '03, 20:05

What does everyone think about a section based along the lines of reactions to our magic. We could share positive or negative feedback we have recieved from tricks and in which situations specific tricks work best. We could gain an insight into reactions of the public.

I have posted an example in the miscellaneous category, of what i mean, titled Crazy Man's Handcuffs.

I hope others have an opinion on this new suggested category, is it a good/bad idea? Or do we have enough categories? If I wanted to post a topic like this, is there somewhere it could go?

Reaction sometimes comes up in reviews of tricks which helps us decide which to buy....i think what your idea is a good one but does it need to take up a whole topic?

Hello :)

Information about how people react to tricks is usefull if you are interested in buying those tricks etc, yeah.
If you have the trick/effect I would personaly rather see a full review in the review section followed by peoples opinions and reaction tales.
This just gives us more info but this is just my two coins and doesn't mean it's a bad idea :)
I look forward to others thoughts.

BaB

edit: aha, like the one above me, I must be typing slower these days...

in theory an excelent idea but with a few problems ie:-

i have done the haunted key for over thirty shows and when i first started doing it i got bad reactions because it was to fast after about ten shows and hours of practise in between, it now gets excelent spooky reactions.
so it depends on how often you do an effect and wether or not you get along with the effect, thats why the review section works because someone may not like the effect because they misunderstood how to present it and someone else can put them on the right track.

also the support section often covers reactions, and the mag only section is full of examples of miss understanding a trick or its presentation.

in the end its a mods view and admin so i wish you well.

I like to hear about reactions, but don't see any need for a special place just for this. Just include it in any post that it is appropiate for. 8)

I think that we should go with the flow here, if there is a review of the effect on the board and you have a particularly good or bad reaction too it then post in the review, if there isn't a review then write one!
This board has the advantage of not being too cluttered with lot's of topics, and though you may argue that that means that not everything is well filed it does mean that you have fewer places to look for the info you need, if it's not a review or hints and tips then look in the miscellaneous section etc.

I agree with the overall opinion. If there is an existing review of an effect nd you got a great (or terrible) reaction to it then THAT is the place to post it, as it would then be influential to those people who haven't bought it and may be thinking of doing so.

If there isn't a review already - then really it would be great to start one off as it would mean that the poster obviously has a fairly strong opinion about it...

but nice idea - it's always worth starting discussions such as these.

In addition, the reaction to a trick is very subjective - I could do something like 'Double Back' and get one reaction, someone else will do it and get a completely different response.

It's certainly a good idea to include the 'WOW' factor in a review if the reviewer has enough data/performance times to go on. If not, others will happily add to the review thread like they do at the moment.
