Mac King's Great Ol' Book of Magic, By Mac King and Bill King. Only $12 at Barnse and Noble bookstoreThis is a great book. I would recommend it for a beginner who is pretty new to magic. The book goes through like a comic strip featuring him and his monkey assistant, Lewis. It is entertaining, I picked it up because i am a fan of Mac King. It gives very thorough instructions, it has punch out props and the book and some require household items. There are over 50 tricks and it comes with a DVD. There is one amazing trick in her called Voodoo that You Do and it is pretty much Third Degree Burn by Jason Palter with E.S.P. cards. This again is recommended for beginners or fans of Mac King.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Is Lewis a real monkey assistant?

You're still thinking about that T.A. Waters effect, aren't you? :)

Ian, the main comment I have about your review is that it's not in the review template: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic19937.php

It's really helpful if the reviews can be in the standard format, partly for neatness, and partly so that all the essential information will be covered.

The book sounds quite interesting. The reference to punch-out props reminds me of a 'Magic Circle' book I had when I was a kid. This was a TV show hosted by a ventriloquist called Ray Alan, rather than the famous magical society (although there may well have been some link).

I think I still have some of the cut-outs from that book.

I bought the book and it's definitley worth the money. I think the voodoo trick is based on Jack Kent Tillar's famous blister trick. Mac King thanks Jack Kent Tillar (and a bunch of other people who's effects are in the book) on the last page.

I love the gag where it looks like you have no head. I've used it about a dozen times so far.

There are some templates for reviews that break things down into sections, that might help for the future...
