Bound by Daniel Madison

The Effect

The freely selected card actually ends up stuck by tape to the box.
The card has no tape stuck to it before the effect.
The box can be inspected before and after and is fairly shown to have no pre-stuck cards.
No card is seen trapped between the tape and box until the performers chosen moment of revelation.
The revelation happens completely in the spectators’ hands with very minimal sleights.
Can be applied to any deck of playing cards within minutes.
Bound can also be performed using a signed card.

Review

I was really deciding to purchase Madison's other product, Blood System, but ended up getting this one. Call it impulsiveness or some irrational spending behaviour, it just happened. All I saw was I've downloaded this product in my hard drive.

The effect is very visual and very simple to do. I guess everything should rely on the performance. This can be done with a regular deck, grab a thick tape and some required tools, you're done. It's hard to describe without giving much away but all you need is just one sleight of hand move. A tricky one. Any clue? It's one of Madison's favorite move. So there.

There are three variations of this move. One is done through the spectator's hands, one is a quick version but done on your hands, the other is done with a signed card.

Can I reset the trick instantly? Yes, just less than minute.

Can I do the trick again? Yes, you could.

Can I do the trick again to the same people? I don't recommend it.

Is the trick visually powerful? Well, yes! Imagine your card is inside the box and it magically goes out and gets stuck underneat the thick tape.

Can the spectator examine the card stuck on the tape? Absolutley.

Can the spectator bring the taped deck home as a souvenir? Sure. Why not?

Can the spectator examine everything before the trick? Like most magic tricks, they woudln't know where to examine (since they have no idea what you are going to do). You don't even have to birng it up.

Do you need a gaffed* card? No. But Daniel gave a tip on using one, but not required.

* The gaff cards you can buy on a magic shop

Can the card be signed? There is a version of the routine that can do this.

Overall

As i've said above, it is recommended if we focus more on the performance. In the first version where everything is done on the performer's hand, it is best to give powerful suggestions (like what we've read on Jermay's book, Building Blocks) for an added Ooomph!

There is also this uncertain feeling if some blokes would discover something weird in your deck at the start. Yes, there is a slim chance you might get caught. But like I said, it is all in your performance.

As for the trick itself, I find it clever and it can be a cool opener. I don't do enough card tricks nowadays but I can consider this part of my routine on the coming event I have early next month.
