Radar Deck

Postby VoodooMick » Jan 31st, '08, 17:37

Hello :)
I have just been browsing magic online as I seem to be entering a CUPS phase and noticed an item called a Radar Deck at magicbox?
Anyone know anything about it please?

radar effect is an awesome effect from richard osterlinds dvd mind mysteries volume 1.
I say get the deck and get the dvd and the same time. It is awesome mate and you'll really love it if your into the mentalism.
The effect is that you show 4 different people a pack of cards and they are each to think of one they see and then you tell them what card they are thinking.. warning.. this will take a bit of getting used too but urge you to take the plunge. See you on face book mate.

i would of it it was rubbish. Also this is an effect that would be better for a large group of people so bear that in mind. But to be honest mate all the osterling gear I have brought in the past is superb!!! 8)

The same effect can be achieved with other decks. If you consider the principles you can make your own. However there are two good reasons to get the radar deck

  • it is better (more practical that other decks) IMHO
  • it will probably be cheaper to buy the radar

I made a similar deck with tarots. It is a lot of fun perfroming this effect and you will not regret your perchase.

Gotta agree their, I don't know the radar deck, although I probably do as I own all the Richard Osterlind Mind Mystery DVD but yes grab the DVD, not sure but you may find you don't need to buy the deck seperatly if the DVD instructs you how to do it.

The method is old and doesn't involve a gimmicked deck. If you have the DVD you can make the deck. But like I said before it may be cheaper to buy the radar deck.

Have not really looked into this beofre but just seen the man himself perform this in a video and now having an attack of the old CUPS. Is this effect clean ? Can the deck be handeled and shuffeled by the audience ? These arnt big concerns for me but tis good to know these things. Is there a maximum number of specs this can be done with..or a minimum ? And as I understand it, once the method is bought, you can make your own decks to you liking? Is all this correct ?

Cheers guys,

The deck as described/supplied isn't clean, no. Though Osterlind offers a perfectly acceptable switch as part of his routine. Once I'd bought mine I soon came up with a working method using a reguar deck though. A little more memory work (there's a tiny amount involved with Osterlind's) but the deck can then be used for follow-up effects and/or examination.

Is there a maximum number of specs this can be done with..or a minimum ?

Osterlind recommends 4 specs and I'm inclined to agree though it IS possible to do it with as few as 2 I don't like the workings of it. There's also a working with more than 4 but again, I'm not a fan and haven't tried it. I stick to 4.

And as I understand it, once the method is bought, you can make your own decks to you liking? Is all this correct ?

Absolutely right. I'd recommend you buy the deck/booklet together though as it's probably the cheapeast way of doing it unless you work something out like I did using a regular deck.
