The Pea and Shell Game - Phil Cass (dvd)

Cost = around $30
From = Ebay but I also saw it at www.circlecitymagic.com
Difficulty = 2/5

The production values of this dvd are pretty good. There are a lot of chapters so its easy to find what you want. Although its an L and L dvd, it doesnt feature the usual audience or studio backdrop.

Phil Cass is one of those performers you will either love or hate i think. I dont think hes very funny and the dvd takes a long time to get around to the start of the routine, as he makes fun of various audience members. I did like the watch steal, but this isnt taught on the dvd.

The routine is taught well, although I find it quite boring. The 'killer climax' (from the dvd blurb) isnt anything particularly original, its similar to nearly every other routine I've seen. I was expecting an unusual final load or something, but it wasnt to be.

Theres a short section on psychology and a Q and A type section. Cass's handling relies on a lot of psychology, so its important if you want to present it like he does.

The bonus features are an effect with a TT and a couple of trailers. Theres also a promotional video for Phil Cass that I didnt bother with, since I didnt like his performance.

Overall, Id give it 7/10
