Steve Haynes' Casanova Concept

Postby DavMac » Feb 15th, '08, 20:38

What they say + Effects:
American brainbox Steve Hayne's has developed an idea called 'The Casanova Concept'. It began in his head over EIGHTEEN years ago (so you just KNOW this theory has been honed and crafted down to the Nth degree). And it is just plain genius.

We have put together a new DVD that explains the theory and demonstrates SIX kick-ass routines that employ it. (And once you understand it, you'll be thinking of all kinds of ways to use it - guaranteed)!

Steve Haynes' 'Casanova Concept' is an easy to apply principle that will allow you to perform bona-fide miracles with both playing cards and business cards. It's simple and straightforward, requires the minimum of sleight of hand and will go straight into your repertoire.

This is NOT a trick; it's a principle that can be applied to hundreds of routines.

Featured on the DVD:

Stroller Controller - A freely selected card is signed front and back, and then lost in the deck. You cleanly reach into your pocket and withdraw their card, showing that you had it BEFORE they even signed it!

Thru & Through - A signed Card Thru Window with a FACE UP, SIGNED selection!

Rip Trip - A signed business card is torn but miraculously restores itself!

Homing On Easy Street - A signed card disappears from the deck and appears in your pocket. TWICE! This is easy-peasy!

And, Steve Haynes' signature piece - the Casanova Closer... Your spectator selects two cards and SIGNS them both. One is placed in their own wallet (or pocket). The other is lost in the deck. Within seconds you open your own wallet to reveal the signed selection which was apparently lost in the deck.

As your spectator is still reeling, you offer to repeat the effect. You re-open your wallet (which was empty only moments ago) and slowly withdraw a face-down card. Your spectator's eyes are popping out of their head - 'How did that signed selection get back into your wallet'? It didn't. It's the OTHER signed card! The one that should have been in the spectators' wallet. And when they look in their pocket they find the first signed card! Then they faint!

BOTH CARDS ARE GENUINELY SIGNED BY THE SPECTATOR AND YOU NEVER TOUCH THE SPECTATOR'S WALLET!

NOTE: 'The Casanova Closer' utilises a gimmicked wallet (not supplied). But, this is just one way to employ the Casanova Concept. The DVD also features a second method using nothing but a deck of cards and an ungimmicked wallet!

Cost £17.99 available direct from http://www.bigblindmedia.com launch Blackpool 08!

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

It's difficult to say, I'll go for 2 - 4.

Review:

As they say it's a principle and a fantastic one at that. BBM have out done themselves again.

I couldn't see initially how this could work. It wasn't until I started playing with the idea, and fooled myself  that I could see the potential. It can be applied to playing cards, business cards even for mentalism (no example of this on the DVD and I wouldn't want to speculate as my knowledge in this area is limited)

The effects on the DVD are to demonstrate what is possible by using the Concept. I don't want to go into any detail on them as the descriptions above are accurate and any further detail would give it away.

The Casanova Closer is how a card to wallet should look (twice!) I shall be using this at my works do next month.

My only issues with the DVD is that there is an error with the title for New Age Card to "Pocket" (DVD menu) it's called New Age Card to "Wallet" (on the performance Title sequence? and is... the alternative handling for a card to Wallet effect!) ... yes this is all I could find wrong with the whole DVD.

Overall:

This is a fantastic DVD and I would thoroughly recommend it. Buy it for the Casanova Closer alone and you won't be disappointed. A big fat 10 out of 10!

I've seen the Casanova Concept in action and I'm not really a fan I'm afraid. The main limitation is a bit too contrived for me to be practical in a "real world setting". Don't want to say too much but I presume if you see the trailers you'll get the idea.

I really liked this dvd and the concept involved, a great release by Steve and BBM. I personally rate the material about 9 out of 10.

However when i first saw the demo, i immediately found something fishy and suspected the gimmick as 'something' was a bit too perfect, which would raise a question among some specs. But i have found an alternate handling and excuse that could just explain that, which it seems the dvd failed to mention, or maybe i missed it.

I thought the same thing hence I changed it and made it “Better for me” lets say. Once again like all BBM material the only limit I see is your imagination. After about a week looking at Casanova Concept it gave me a few new fresh ideas to work into other routines. With added ideas and routines from the other BBM DVD’s and other materials I have I don’t think I would live long enough to perfect all of the ideas I have. :(

Just my thoughts take care all

I have kind of worked out the principle I think, i watched the demo a few times and now I have got it, pretty much.

I have a problem here, if my theory on the concept, haha, is true, then they did not include certain information in the advertisement of this DVD.

I think i would be a little annoyed if I had bought this, that is if I am correct in my assumption on the principle idea.

The only reason that I would be annoyed is that in the demo video, he draws circles on the cards, well does this happen in all the effects?
If so, why does it not say it in the info?

This has been out for a while now and I'm thinking of getting it. Can anyone who has been "living with it" for a while give a review update? It's meant to be a solid "principle" and a "game changer" - does that seem right to those of you who bought it a few month back? Or is it now gathering dust somewhere...

No-one has replied to my question above so I must now assume that this DVD is rubbish and not to buy it. Your silence speaks volumes.

hiya 'The Stoner',

i can't answer whether the TalkMagic folks are using the Casanova Concept... but i can tell you that Steve Hayne's spiffy idea is one of the featured articles on the new Paul Harris True Astonishments set! it's deffo one of those ideas that can help create miracles - but it won't do it for you (if you know what i mean). you need to get stuck into a solid routine with it, to see it's worth.

hope that helps a bit!

:D
