I think some credit must be given to one of the UK's sharpest, inventive minds in magic at the moment.
The DVD's I have of Dave's (2WO Faced and The Trickery) are full of usable effects that get great reactions and you can tell the man is a seasoned pro who has tried and tested these effects in front of real spectators rather than some kid who has thought things up in their bedroom.

I have not seen him perform for a lay audience, but his teaching is clear and thorough and the methods are always ingenious and practical.

I have got good mileage from some of the effects taught on the aforementioned DVD and his material is aimed at impressing the layman rather than dazzling a magician with some technical nonsense. Good quality, professional material that has been well thought out.

Hats off to the man!

If I could make it up there, I'd love to come!

Normally I find ace routines boring and unmagical but Dave's one on The Trickery are highly visual and get a great response.

2WO Faced is the mutt's nuts and the inclusion of twenty gaffed cards is the icing on an already delicious cake. :D

When we were shooting the STRIP DVD last year, he had a manky old deck of cards with him, but he could still execute an invisible pass with them.

He's also a nice bloke.

I think Dave Forrest is fantastic and I love his effects.

His material is very workable and I think he really utilises everything you will have at your arsenal when performing.

I often wonder why someone like him doesn't get similar or more recognition than Dynamo from the public......

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

I agree with you there. I feel Dynamo is pure style over substance whereas Mr Forrest is a highly skilled and inventive magician who really should have some kind of tv exposure.

Even something simple such as 'Bil-Ink' from the Trickery DVD, really gets great reactions. So simple and ingenious yet people have been stunned by that one.

I have been performing Burger Kings of late for people and, as one spec said, it has it all , visual disappearances and a great reveal of their chosen card at the end. All with out any gaffs or prior set-ups. Priceless stuff.

Well, I turned up to the RAF club at 7.30, but everyone else was somewhere else...

A wee bit fed up that I missed the lecture, I was looking forward to catching up with Dave.

Take care, Ian

Sorry Ian, I should have posted the venue here for those who were interested.
Unfortunately my health has just about collapsed in a heap and I haven't got a clear mind at the moment.

Maybe next time....

Dave Forrest just seems to always come up with with brilliant and really innovative ideas! His 'Route one' card at any number effect is about as simple as they get but it is extremely hard hitting, which has become one of his trademarks I guess.
