The Effect
A blue backed deck is removed from its case. The deck is spread and your spectators are asked to call out the names of some cards that they see. You then take the named cards and, one by one, begin to magically change their back colour from blue to red! Offering a better look at the technique you announce that you will change the back of another card...
...IN SLOW MOTION!
With a gentle wave of your hand, the card begins to visibly change. The card actually appears to change as you move your hand back and forth over it! You pause halfway - the card under your hand is half blue and half red! Slowly, you complete the colour change, visually changing the remaininder of the blue card to red. The card is now fairly shown on both sides - it has completely changed to red!. But, you're not done...
With a snap of your fingers the entire deck instantly changes to red before their already disbelieving eyes. They pick their jaws up - you move onto your next miracle!
Cost
£12.95
There is a small "oddness" that occurs when you go to pay for this, where it appears cheaper, then you have to pay for postage. This is because you have to pay postage for some reason, so Full52 have discounted it, and added postage- Hope that makes sense.)
Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
I'd say 3. THere's a couple of slieghts but nothing too troublesome. Probably closer to a 2.5
Review
I downloaded this and was very happy.
Technically, the download was easy with straight forward instructions.
The customer service was great aswell.
As with all Dave's releases it's entertaining and fun, but also clear and concise. After 10 mins prep you've got everything you need, and stood infront of a mirror saying "Wow, I really am wiping colour on and off"
There are 2 routines, and although Colour Burn is the main effect, even Dave admits that you'll find it easier to slot the bonus into the middle of a routine as an extra effect - Colour Burn is more of an opener. Both routines have clean ups, and allow you to carry on into your other card effects.
Yes there is a gimmick to carry round, but nothing you would worry about carrying round, and among magicians, you could get away with doing it with a borrowed deck.
It's hard to think of anything else to say, what they say is what you see, the demo on the site is very honest, that's real life that is. http://www.full52.com/
Overall
I can't think of any reason that anyone would be displeased with this purchase - unless you don't like card magic. With plenty of practice there are no danger areas, there is no danger of breaking anything, the method can be applied to other effects, its clean...erm, no it's a great effect.
And priced fairly, bearing in mind it's actually 2 effects and a versatile method.

I agree totally with the 10/10 rating. I even think Dave Forrest should be awarded a medal in as well!
This is a great magic trick and the actual colouring effect, where you slide your fingers over a card, back and forth, and it changes visually from blue to red, back to blue and back to red a few times... this is just an amazing visual effect.
Very good review Partypaul, but there is only one thing I disagree with you about.

But I highly reccomend Colour Burn!
Actually I have a few of Dave Forrest's DVDs and he's a great magician. I also met him last year in Blackpool and he's an overall great guy. _________________ Gunnar Kr.

| Dave is a buddy of mine. But with that out of the way, let me say that this effect and concept is stellar. There are soooo many possibilities with this gimmick. I'm working on a slow motion transposition that looks killer! Highly recommended. |

This is a beautiful bit of magic. I already have a colour changing deck routine I'm fond of, but I will definitely be working this into the mix - it's simply too good not to perform.
The illusion is perfect (and its a perfection which persists even once you know how it's achieved) and if you're anything like me (i.e. stunned by the demo) you'll be even more shocked when you see what the gaff is...
The gaff is easily constructed but the handling, although simple, will require practice. It's not something you'll be doing immediately, but the effect and price come together to make the effort worth it. _________________ Formerly Cardza... |

| Yeah...I was wondering too how much practice was required for the effect and angle problems or cleaning up problems? |

I tried Colour Burn out about 30 min. after I received the DVD. It's very easy if you follow the tutoring. There are two moves you need to be familiar with (or practice after you learn from the DVD) -they are not very angle sensitive at all- and then you are off with a blast.
Dave Forrest also explains very thoroughly on the DVD how you can clean up completely and even keep on with other (unrelated) magic tricks with the same deck. It's just brilliant! He should be awarded MBE or something _________________ Gunnar Kr.

I bought this last night, made the gimmick in about 5 mins and was fooling myself with it shortly afterwards.
There are two effects on here. Colour Burn, which is a full deck colour change and Print Run which is a slow motion printing of a blank card.
I've been concentrating on the Print Run effect since the setup is a little easier and it is suitable for performing in the middle of a set as opposed to Colour Burn which is pretty much an opener only.
This really is a fab effect.

Ha ha ha... this is exactly the same feeling I got after I tried it out first.
The optical illusion is soooooooo strong it's amazing and you fool your own eye with this.
The gimmick is simply brilliant and I repeat: Award Dave Forrest a medal! _________________ Gunnar Kr.

I know I'm bumping an oldish thread but I just bought this today. Oh, my God! Absolutely fantastic!
I was worried that the gimmick, whatever it was going to be, would be too faffy and fiddly to work in a real world situation but it really isn't - it's pure genius. I'll definitely be using this. _________________ "Some of those that burn crosses are the same that hold office" - Zack de la Rocha |
