Review
This DVD, although (as with any DVD) has one or two tricks that I would never find myself doing, there are so many genius ideas that Jay uses in his tricks, and even if you dont want to do the trick itself, the ideas can easily be taken out of context and used with cards, or whatever you are familier with.
Quest for Fire
This trick is such a darned easy trick, but it's actually so breathtaking. The idea is that under a hankerchief, Jay puts a red and a white matchbook in, takes out a red one (showing the audience member that it's red), then covers it in his hands. It changes to blue, and the one in the hankerchief becomes red. This happens three times (once in the spectators hand). Excellent trick
P.O.S.H
I didn't like this one so much at first. The patter doesnt really feel right (it makes you feel like a weirdo) if you do the trick as he does. However recently I found a way to fit it into a coin routine, and make it flow completely normally. The idea is that twice, a signed coin travels from your fist to your pocket. It's a nice idea, but if you leave the trick as it is then it isnt really tidied up well.
$ 0 Bill Switch
If you're comfortable with signing dollar bills, then this is the freakiest trick you could want. Two dollar bills are signed by different people. One is placed in a wallet, which is closed, and the other is held up in the air. The bill then is folded and unfolded, and it has become the other bill - the first bill being in the wallet. This is perhaps not the easiest trick in the world, but people actually believe that the bills have switched - it's that good.
The poke vanish
I can't say much on this - except if you're one of those rare few who enjoy performing tricks with matchsticks then this matchstick vanish is pretty realistic, and kinda clever too.
Hot Knot
I hate rope tricks - I always have. But you can tell that Jay has put in a lot of thought to this, and it has paid off. If this was used in anything other than a rope trick then somehow I can imagine being in love with it

Drop Switch
To be absolutely honest, for ages I couldve sworn that he had just performed the Bobo switch, and just renamed it the Drop Switch. This is virtually the same move, only for serious coin workers who are terrified that the Bobo switch isn't foolproof enough.
Gimme Five
Once again - matchstick magic. I would honestly perform this about halfway through my routine. However, the setup is so ridiculous that it just has to be an opener. I have an opener that I am very happy with and matchsticks arent really my thing.
Hypnovanish
This is almost a perfect coin vanish. It has no difficult sleights, both hands can be shown empty (on both sides) and you can do it in the nude (says Jay). This would indeed be a perfect coin vanish, but there is an unavoidable part of the trick - having to point both fingers at your eyes. Now Jay's excuse for doing such a ludicrous thing is claiming that he is hypnotizing the audience - weird... Unfortunately, it just doesnt work that way.
In Vitro
This trick has actually found a permanant place in my act and has sprouted so many possiblilities from it's genius idea. He makes a clear mark of a key in one piece of putty (putting the other piece away), and makes the two switch places. The great thing is that using something like a key, which you cant really duplicate, this really seems genuine. And it's explanation made me jump up and down with the cleverness - I had never seen anything like it before. Brilliant trick
Strange and Stranger
This really does send a shiver down your spine when you see it. It has one climax after the other, and they both hit you as hard as "Out of this World" hits you the first time you see it (when you have no idea about magic). This would easily be my closer if it didnt involve tearing two dollar bills. Otherwise, it's one of those freaky effects that there just arent enough of.
Overall
It's pretty much worth buying for the tricks which are good (and by good I mean exceptional). I wouldnt take in everything I say, but this is how I felt about the DVD. If you hate card tricks, but like close-up, you'll probably love this.
Im new to writing reviews, but this'll be an 8/10, because the ideas really are brilliant for all standards of magicians.
