O.C.L Ben Williams

Okay so the release date for this is 7th July- but you can get the downloadable file - so this is kind of a pre-review of the dvd I spose....

What the Blurb says

O.C.L -Ben William

"What is O.C.L. ?

O.C.L. stands for One Card Link.

Forget the Anniverarys Waltz! This is the new 'must-perform' routine for couples.

You have a card selected and tear two cardboard ‘rings' from it. Both of the rings are then signed by the spectator - they are unbroken - completely in tact!
You take both rings and place them into the spectator's hand.
After a few moments concentration the spectator examines the rings only to find out that they are IMPOSSIBLY LINKED TOGETHER!
The rings may now be examined - the spectator can keep them as a souvenir and will never be able to unravel the secret of how they became linked!

On this incredible DVD, Ben will take you step by step through the process of creating this stunning moment of magic.
From start to finish, everything you need to know is covered in great detail and the DVD also includes 6 AMAZING BONUS IDEAS using the O.C.L. concept.

What are you waiting for? Give your next spectators a healthy dose of the impossible with Ben Williams' - O.C.L !"

WHAT I SAY.............

Given that this was just a download and not the dvd, the production of the footage is very organised and concised.

The footage breaks down the process that is needed in order to link the two pieces of the "one card" it is true they do link!!!!

(without giving to much away, if your not one for arts and crafts
and persiverance then this effect is not goin to be for you! You will be making a trip to your local art store or hobbycraft)

Although each part of the process is clearly documented some people may find the process complicated on first
attempting this, but after you 5- 6 goes youl get alot smoother.........you will have a few teething problems as I did last night...

Arhhh and have a few spare decks handy to nick the court cards!

After production I demoed this to the hardest of all people to convince (my missus) and she was very impressed at how well constructed the card is (im trying not to give to much away here).
The card is pretty fool proof under close scutiny, however Im not convinced that if it was kept as a keep sake by a spec that after a couple of days of constant playing with the card they
would find its clever little secret? (sorry Ben) although Im yet to try that!

Im not a card man myself but I think im goin to pop this into my gig on saturday and see how it rolls.....

Im gonna give this effect 8/10 for stealth, 10/10 for handling, production values of 9/10 and an overall rating of 9/10 seems fair.....

Even if this doesnt go on to get used in your act, I feel its worth a watch anyway to get the old brain juices flowing, Im already thinking of tons of possiblities that this effect will
be great to use for!

NICE ONE BEN!

DVD Release date 7th July 2008

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the review, it is much appreciated.

All the best,

Ben

Ps, with a couple at a wedding I will leave the linked card with them but use patter like as long as they are together so will you be! So don't rip them! Or I use the wedding method as taught on the DVD/Download. I also assess the situation with who I am performing for, if they are too challenging I will perform OCL and let them quickly examine the rings and cut them off quickly, take the rings back and say, 'oh wait I forgot to show you, if you fold it here, here and here, they vanish! It was all just an illusion, everyone knows you can't link two solid rings together!' Magic should be entertaining and fun not challenging.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you prefer you can use the impossible location method (or purse method as it was called on the DVD) if you are uncertain of performing OCL live, it is great practice for getting the link perfect in performance.

Many thanks,

Ben

Ps I thought of a great handling tip for the purse method if anyone who has OCL would like me to explain it you can email me at ben@unbelievablemagic.com. And I will let you in on it.

I'm gonna have to cough up twenty dollars now.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Your gonna have to cough up $40 Ian!

To be honest I'm not one for spending £20 on one trick, but I'll admit that this effect does look nice.

Can this gimmick be used more than once? Or is it a case of doing the setup and doing one trick with it?

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Hi everyone,

If you have bought OCL you can now have a look at the forum on www.streetsleights.com for a different routine for OCL, if you don't give the rings away with this method you can use them again as the rings aren't signed in this routine, you use the centre piece as confirmation of the rings being the same.

I will also be writing up another signed linking card routine I devised years ago and sharing it with everyone who has OCL for free.

Chris, how have you got on with OCL?

Many thanks,

Ben

Hi Everyone,

I am pleased to say OCL was reviewed in Magicseen this month and got 4 stars, it is in the reviews section if you want to have a look.

Also I have written up another signed linking card routine I use in the OCL forum at www.streetsleights.co.uk. This is a routine where you link the rings of 2 cards together and then unlink them and hand them out for inspection unlinked.

I hope you enjoy it, I will try to get a file with pictures added to the forum post.

All the best,

Ben

Hey everyone,

Just to let everyone know I have found a supply of the Scotch product you need for OCL. It will be put up on magicshop soon as a product but you can email me if you like to order directly from me.

Many thanks,

Ben

O.C.L

Postby ADTritton » Mar 20th, '09, 22:18

I purchased O.C.L about a month ago. I found the instructions clear and easy to follow and after a couple of attempts the process was pretty easy.

Having performed the effect a number of times the reactions have been great, no-one can understand how this is done. I even had one person tear two rings from paper and try to proove it was all in the folding, suffice to say their method was not succesful.

One of my work colleagues has kept their ring and has it displayed on their desk, all comers are welcome to try to work it out. It's been 3 weeks and no one bothers anymore.

Overall an excellent effect and worth the price

A Scotch product in a magic trick, what is this blasphemy, seriously though it looks amazing, I loved labelled and now re-labelled, so I think that next time I do a order this will end up in my basket, one quesion though, can it be bought as a DVD or is it download only?
