I ordered this yesterday and received it this morning. Many thanks to Dominic and the team at Merchant of Magic for such a fast dispatch.

I've read through most of the booklet and the routine sounds great. As for the cards, they really are of superb quality; they are reproduction cabinet photographs and not just computer prints. The photos measure about 2.5x3.5 inches and come on thick, durable stock. Even for a working professional (which I am not), I can see these photographs lasting a very long time indeed, if treated with care.

I can confirm that the blurb on Dominic's site is, indeed, 100% accurate. Some may think that £30 is a lot of money for 28 photographs, but remember that not only are you getting props of the very highest quality, but an excellent 21-page booklet detailing the original routine plus an alternative handling, plus performance and handling tips from Jim Critchlow. In addition, you also get three versions of a routine for use with ordinary playing cards.

Taking the whole package into consideration, I think this is worth the asking price and I'm not paid for my performances. Granted, I have yet to show this to anyone, but I'm planning my first performance for Sunday evening and I am confident it will go down well. In the meantime, I am going to do a bit of research on the Titanic so I'm a bit more clued up for Sunday. Thanks to Totally Mental for the great post above.

EDIT: I am going to have fun shopping for markers in charity and antique shops. What is everyone else using? I was also thinking about getting something to hold the photos. An old leather wallet of some description, perhaps.

Having nothing to add about the trick, just a site for history that I used with school. Very extensive resource on the subject with crew and passenger lists and details of some of the people.

and a documentary for the people too lazy to read

I use a lovely little box that Iain gave me,an 1899 English penny, and a ruby ring.

Next day delivery Replicant - jammy so and so!!!

Unfortunately I work away from home during the week so have to wait about 4 or 5 days to get my grubby little mitts on my delivered goods.

With a bit of luck it will have been delivered by the time I get back to sunny Wales!

I know it's early days yet, but there are already some great extra tips and advice for White Star on the forum. And for those of us who have not yet purchased or acquired suitable markers, there is even a link available to download and print two markers that can be used in the meantime. Thanks to Dominic, Jim and all concerned.

just got this today after ordering it yesterday from MoM, first impressions excellent, I've been stuck at my computer and Wikipedia all afternoon writing a script for it. I also ordered a couple of old coins on eBay.

Will post a full review once I've had time to fully digest the other handlings, and the online content as well. Big thumbs up so far

I saw this performed by a friend of Jim's in a (the!) Sheffield magic shop when it was a prototype - I loved it, and couldn't wait for the release.

Unfortunately, at the time the guys were talking about doing a run for a convention that was coming up, and seemed to suggest it would be available for between £15-20. Because of this, I was a bit disappointed to find it was being priced at £30.

Some clever thinking on Jim's behalf - it really is practically moveless - and a great effect in general. In some ways, I'm glad it's been priced out of the reach of dabblers, but still, at £30 it's a little rich for my blood, at the moment at least :(

Hi everyone,

I love this i havn't performed it much yet but when i have it has been very well recieved.

I also use an old penny, and i dowloaded and copied an old white star line ticket, then i tea stained it and i must say it looks just like an orginal titanic ticked, peolpe have actualy asked if it was the real thing, these seem to be ideal for the props and not a problem to carry around.

Top marks to jim on this very creative idea.

Hi there, my name is vinnie.
I got white star today delivered and i have some problems with the explanation i did get.
I am from the netherlands and my english is not that good. (text deleted by Mods)Can someone please give me a good and short explanation wich get me more understandable about how to use this trick?

Vinnie, best advice we can offer is for you to contact the supplier and ask them to send you a more detailed explanation - possibly they can put you in touch with other customers in The Netherlands who have White Star and can help you - they're a good firm and will ne happy to help.

Regards,
Vinnie ;)

Questions!!

Postby JD » Apr 16th, '10, 12:41

I've had this a while but not performed it yet.

What sort of reactions have you guys been getting?

What do you think are most believable props?

Also Replicant did you get your hands on a leather wallet as I was thinking of the same sort of thing to hold photos in to keep them in good condition.

Lee Smith - I like your ticket idea. Where can I download a copy from if you don't mind me stealing your idea?

Finally, is there a White Star Forum up and running now?

Regards
