Music for Losander floating table

Postby gh256 » Jul 7th, '08, 09:19

Hi,

I have the Losander floating table and I now need some music to go with it. I loved the music that Derren Brown used when he performed it and thought it was perfect. It was an old vinyl record sound but it had a magical feel and also a little creepy but also with a more magical bit in it when the table started floating.
You would no what I mean if you saw it :)

I'm looking basically for something like that, an old record sound sort of creepy but also magical. I don't mind doing some editing to put something in when it comes to the table floating, but its knowing what, its hard to describe what his sounded like.

Any ideas?

Glenn

Changing the thread slightly,

Did anyone see MagicWeek this week about Losander?

The article says it all

I don't own the floating table yet but planning on buying one. For music, it all depends on your style and character. For example my character is a comedic (hopfully spelled right) mobster. The song I would use with the table would be "The Godfather" theme (italian remix). Just do some research and you would find a song or two that matches your persona.

Try and find anything by Tomita and have a listen.

If I were performing a floating table then I'd go with his arrangement of Clair de lune but he does lots of classics and contemporary pieces using synthesizers but in a very mystical way.

If you find a good mysterious piece of music you like on MP3, you might be able to dirty it up a little with audio editing software, to make it sound more like an old 78.

Mysterious music ay. How about the theme from "Unsolved Mysteries".

Glenn, I think the music score from the movie: ET, (when the bicycle goes flying), would be excellent with Losander's table presentation.
Or even the theme score from ET?
(Actually any of John Williams "flying music") :)

Good luck with this and also good luck and warm thoughts to Dirk, Luna and Ione.

The Back to the Future theme would be great, or, any Joe Satriani (silver Surfer).

Or, be like Gob, only do illusions, and use Europes "The Final Countdown"!

I just had an important legal thought.

If you're performing to an audience, especially a paying audience, there are serious copyright considerations. Don't just grab a CD and play it during your act. Assuming you don't want to get into licensing red tape, you need copyright-free or license-free music.

Classical music is copyright-free, but any individual recording is under copyright. You could have it played live, or else search the internet for a public-domain version. (Project Gutenberg has some public domain music recordings, but I don't know their quality.)

I would suggest searching for licence-free or royalty-free music. Generally speaking, a CD of royalty-free music costs considerably more than an ordinary music CD, but in buying it you acquire the rights to use the recording.

An internet search for royalty-free or licence-free music will bring up sources. I can personally recommend Redstone Music, having bought a few of their CDs myself. Their "Panto Musical FX" 1 and 2 are loaded with great atmospheric tunes.

EDIT: The website www.royalty-free.tv looks pretty good, too. You can search by mood (presumably you'd want something like "eerie" or "disturbing") and buy individual pieces of music.
