on a whim, last week i splashed out the princly sum of £8.99 on Amazon
on the dvd


"Magic Up-Close by Shimshi".

And im rather glad i did.

Shimshi, was winner of the magic castle strolling magicians championship, twice, and watching the reall life , reall audience footage, it's easy to see why.

On this dvd, he explains 4 effects.

the credit card trick, the haunted pack, 10-13-20, and the painted tens.

Firstly, the credit card trick.

this is his thoughts on the dreaded humming bird, or helicopter card trick.

I loath this effect for one reason. It seems to be the favorite of the web cam trixters, most of whom ruin what can be in the right hands, a miracle.

Shimshi, has the right hands. His performance of this using a borrowed credit card is brilliant. As is his reasons as to why you use a credit card, over a playing card.
one of those being, its a borowed item. people become interested in the card from a distance.
He also has a nice bit of buiseness, with the card animating in teh spectators hands, thats well worth watching.
as part of the explanation of this effect, he goes into great details as to how to prepair the hook up, and how to practice using this kind of set up. Its absolutly chock full of information.Id go as far as to say, its some of the best thread info there is.

the second effect, the haunted deck, uses exactly the same hook up. so your ready to perform it straight away. great stuff.

the next effect, the painted tens, is a nice effect where the two black tens visibly change into the red tens. its very nice.


and finaly, ( well finaly as far as the effects go) he gives us, his routine 10-13-20.
based on a paul harris effect, this variation on the classic cards across, is well worth learning. the misdirection lessons alone should benefit any viewer.

finaly, shimshi gives hints, tips, and sugestions on the buiseness side of magic. In particular, how to aproach the table / group, how to hand out your buiseness cards, and how to garner more buiseness from them with a little bit of psychology.

This £8.99, was a very well spent £8.99.
