Does anyone know where I can get hold of a poker sized deck of tarot cards?
Thankyou.

I've been looking for the Universal Rider Waite deck on poker to no avail :(

I've had an excellent idea regaring tarot cards that require them being poker size. I've been messing around with this idea for about 3 months. As I'm out of the UK for a few months I hadn't previously tried to get hold of a deck thinking it wouldn't be a problem. I e-mailed the card collection yesterday thinking they would definately have some and they have let me know they don't think any exist. Now I'm worried that I've wasted a lot of time.

The decks that immediately spring to mind are the Alestair Crowley deck that comes in a smaller size that if my memory serves me well might be close to a poker size. I seem to remember that they are called mini Thoth.
Also the Rider Waite comes in more sizes than you can shake a stick at, although perhaps more careful scrutiny might reveal that they are not EXACTLY poker size.

I thought the whole point is that Tarot cards are not the same size as playing cards.

My Tarot deck is much larger than a normal deck of cards, which I think is comforting.

I'd hate to think a reader was able to manipulate the deck in the same way they can with Bikes. If I had Tarot cards the same size/finish as poker 808s then your reading would be whatever I wanted it to be, hehehe.

Tomo, I've just come across these which are slightly narrower than poker. I'm in the middle of no where at the moment (althought I haven't seen a day of rain for three months so can't complain) and can't order anything until October but they look hopeful. Can someone tell me how much narrower, I don't even have a ruler!!!!!!!

I picked up a poker size tarot deck from Waterstones in Birmingham. They were in with the 'popular psychology' books (Amongst all that psuedo science rubbish like astrology and sets of rune stones etc.)

Also, they were selling them in some branches of WHSmith's last year. Might be worth a look in there too. Check the 'popular psychology' section again, or they might be stocked under 'hobbies & past times' if they still have any.

Good luck with your search. Hope you find a suitable deck.

If it doesn't have to be Tarot precisely, there are loads of pop fortune-telling decks around (angel oracles, druid oracles, animal oracles, etc etc ad infinitum). These come in all shapes and sizes, and I'm sure some of them must be standard poker size.

If not, maybe you can buy a blank-faced deck and draw your own.

I think those are Bridge-sized cards. (I had to dig around a bit, as the direct link doesn't work)

Poker decks are 1/4" wider than Bridge ones. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 5121000042

Hmm. I don't think rune stones are pretending to be a science. They work because, as we all know, it is the gods themselves who control chance. By the throwing of the stones, and allowing chance to determine where they fall, we are able to interpret the mind of the gods. No science involved. Just common sense.

I spent a very interesting day at the "House of Marbles" in Devon recently. They have a wonderful collection of old games and pastimes. Apparently the earliest board games were used as a form of divination. I have a made up story I sometimes use about how poker was originally a form of fortune telling. Seems I might have been right all along. Coincidence or race memory? You decide.

I sent my mum into waterstones today (I'm living in Turkey for 4 months) she picked up a deck of tarot cards which she thinks are poker size. If they turn out to be right all I can say is look out for me at any future conventions because you've got a great big kiss coming to you....or a pint if you'd prefer.
Cheers for the tips everyone.

Your welcome mate, hope they work out OK for you - and I'm afraid I don't drink anymore these days....so I guess it would have to be the kiss then!
