I have just checked and I do see that I have devoted a chapter on the matter in my most wondrous "Wit and Wisdom of Mark Lewis" e-book. It can be obtained at http://www.marklewisentertainment.com/h ... cians.html

I don't think I was yapping about nervousness on this forum but elsewhere on another forum. That is why your search ended in failure.

Dai Vernon suffered from stagefright so you are not alone. Here is one tip if you are doing close up magic on an impromptu basis. I have not mentioned this in my book. Just admit to your spectators that you are as nervous as hell! By admitting it you will be less nervous and evoke a powerful concept which I have also mentioned in my book and have preached incessantly about it here, there and everywhere.

There is a horrible phenomena that affects every magician. It is known as "defensive resentment". I invented the terminology although God invented the phenomena. I have no energy to explain it all here so you will have to buy my book to find out what I am yapping about. It pertains to the fact that laymen don't like being fooled by magicians and they can show resentment over the matter to varying extents depending on that particular layman.

By admitting you are a bag of nerves will help a lot to get rid of that audience resentment. It could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

If your talking about stage fright, I believe that thats something you should always have, mainly because it's the effect of adrenalin pumping through the body.
nervousness on the other hand, is a whole different animal, the only cure for this is being good, and knowing it.

Well, that book's got mixed reviews :) It would also be one of the more expensive books I'd bought.

Surely you can't be referring to my book? It is only a lousy $15. That ain't expensive. As for the "mixed reviews" there was only one bad review and that was from some blithering idiot from Yorkshire who gave it a bad review 15 minutes after he bought it and didn't have enough time to read it. I noticed that even if nobody else did.

He obviously had an agenda and purchased it so he could deliberately give it a bad review. He figured that it was worth spending a measly $15 just to cause trouble.

The twit said that the book taught people how to be a con man. He ignored all the priceless advice on other stuff.

Anyway if you have already purchased my book then there is no need to worry about nervousness. There is a whole chapter there about it. You should read it.

Magic is still not a formalised subject as any other conventional subject where certain specific books can be advised strongly for reference or to be read. Till magic reaches a state where it is recongnised as a formalised subject one need to go through various books and accompanied with their experience in magic must make their own notes which will finally help then to achive their objective.

Hello all, just read this old thread and thought I'd see if I can reawaken it.

Marvell posted this list below, and some other books are mentioned which I've added to the list...

Win the Crowd by Steve Cohen
Exploring Magical Presentations by Eugene Burger (DVD)
Scripting Magic by Pete McCabe
The Principles of Magic by Richard Osterlind
Mastering the Art of Magic by Eugene Burger
Magic and Meaning by Eugene Burger
The Books of Wonder by Tommy Wonder
The Magic of Michael Ammar
Beyond Secrets by Jay Sankey
Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz
Our Magic by Nevil Maskelyne and David Devant
Magic and Showmanship by Henning Nelms
Showmanship and Presentation by Edward Maurice 1946

Since the post is quite ancient now, does anyone know of any more recent books or DVDs that are worth a look?
