Okay, so nothing new here in regards to what weve got,
but my old ring flight to wallet broke, so it seemed a goodtime to upgrade...

The flight itself is consealed very steathly inside one of those car unlocky button presser things(hope thats not to much exposure), comes with a nice carabiner so u dont have to fiddle with a tiny mechanism...

Ok so its easy to use, anyone can do it, but making it into a nice routine is something else...The dvd gives you a couple of ideas but what you see is what you get...

This is a nice addition to the Ringflight family, and you could probably get away with handing it to a spectator and they wouldnt even see it !

Cheers Chris, just got this the other day and was going to review it, but thankfully you've saved me the job...

I'd have to agree with the blurb and say that it is indeed 'whisper quiet'.

The length of the 'gimmick' is only about 18" long. This is ideal for making the ring appear in a back pocket (which is after all what the ad says..), but anyone wishing to use their inside jacket pocket might find it a bit short.

In all it's a nice little piece of kit, but as Chris says, it's up to you to put a routine together.

As a last note I'm about to experiment with a few ideas on completely soundproofing the carabiner and split rings (which is the only small chink in this gizmo's armour). If anyone wants to know what I'm doing or if it works out just pm me.

The reel went back inside, the ring came off and that bit of metal holding the reel out of the device has fallen off somewer gutted

Hmm... my impression of how safe it is to perform ring flight effects with a reel is steadily plummeting. There doesn't seem to be a single one that people have not encountered scary problems with.

One thing I noticed with the IMAKulate ring flight (which broke) - it uses a very powerful and fairly quiet reel, but seemingly no reel is designed to endure the constant *SMASH* as the ring clip thunks into whatever stopper mechanism is used. Or rather, it's not the reel's fault - most usually it is the thread/wire that isn't up to the job, or the knot used comes undone, or even the clasp or clip is made of too brittle a metal to withstand regular blows like that.

I used to do a fair bit of climbing, and one thing is drummed into you - ropes are fine and last for quite a while if you put gradual pressure on them i.e. abseiling down stuff or suspending you, but if you take a significant fall and are saved by the rope, replace the rope. There are very, very few materials that can withstand sudden, sharp, high velocity jolts on anything like a regular basis.

I expect all of us who have given reels a go have sworn once or twice when it painfully whips your finger because you were holding it too close to the entrance of the reel...! Think how painful that was, then think that the thread, the knot, the metal of the clip - they are supposed to withstand the full brunt of that power every time. I have never come across a reel/thread/clip arrangement that could withstand even 10 full length, full speed retractions without something giving Certainly if any of the components are plastic you don't stand a chance.

More and more, I am inclined towards reel-less ring flights...

Mark Leveridge sells a ring flight effect that doesn't use a reel. The demo vid reveals the method (to me, at least) and I don't care much for it personally, but at least it is reel-less.

With all these disasters in mind I've managed to nicely cover the carabiner in black rubber, heat shrink tubing. This has cut down on the noise considerably. You could also just paint the whole thing in black isoflex liquid rubber. I've also fixed a rubber gromit just behind the carabiner to reduce the effects of the impact.... (the eraser on the end of a pencil will do nicely with a piece of black pvc tape around it).

At any rate, it's quite a bit of work to do all this (and costs a few quid) and I guess it depends on how perfect you want your ring flight to be?

Good suggestion. I had almost exactly the same problem with the similar 'Rinkey Dinkey' (*waits for some imaginative person to misquote this in the Innuendo Bingo thread*) and Peter Nardi took it back.

Oddly enough, though, he recommended the 'IMAKulate Ring Flight'! I got this, but it was about the time that I moved away from doing much of this sort of magic (as opposed to mentalism/mental magic), so it didn't really get much use.

Chris, could you tell us what has happened since then? I am interested in getting the effect myself and would like to know of Alakazam's attitude in such cases as it is a very real possibility that I might face this.

Speaking of Ring Flights and such, I bought Ring a Ring a Rosie from Five of Hearts via Mike Danata who I think is stocking some of these at the moment. Usually you have to order and then wait a while.

A ring is borrowed and vanished in a hank (large quality silk hank provided) while the spec is holding onto the ring and hank. The magician then produces a rose in a sealed glass tube, removes the end stoppers and takes the rose from the tube in front of the spec. The rose is threaded through the borrowed ring and can be seen inside of the sealed tube before it is reoved. No IT, no reels etc.

Lovely routine, lovely method and beautifully made, as with all five of hearts products.

I think that it's around £55 and I can't recomend it enough.
