Tosh on the magic cafe about kid shows!

Postby mark lewis » Nov 13th, '08, 02:25

I have just been looking at this thread on the magic cafe:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view ... orum=17&13

I can't believe the rubbish they are talking on there. I don't think a single one of them should be allowed to do children's shows since it is perfectly evident that not a single one of them knows what they are talking about.

Very bad advice from virtually everybody. Of course they are all Americans. I have always said that the Yanks don't know how to do children's shows properly. They seem to have this daft idea that you are supposed to do magic in a magic show. They have a lot to learn.

There are plenty of dreadful children's entertainers in Britain too but we do have a higher percentage of people who know what they are doing in the UK than they do in North America.

If the magician doesn't know how to handle noisy kids then they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

C'mon Mark, we're talking about the freak'n Cafe... land of deluded minds, arm chair experts and suckers (as in those eager to buy anything pitched by the pros that give them the time of day.)

You and I both know how rampantly ignorance flows through that place and why

I am not sure if the link works anyway. It doesn't on my computer. However it is in the little darlings section and they are talking about handling noisy kids.

I can't get at the thread either but that may be because I haven't visited there for ages. To be honest Mark, if you say it's tosh, I'll believe you - perhaps my blood pressure is all the better for not reading that kind of dross.....

well probably this is why he asks in the first place. if you dont know something you can learn it. What you suggest is in more general terms - "if a difficulty arises just quit and dont try to overcome it".

- if you cant palm a card then stop doing card tricks
- if you cant do a c****r t**r then dont go into mentalism

etc.

everything can be learned and practiced and there are not many problems where you cant find a direct solution or some other ways to come around it.

Malini had small hands. Still he found a way to overcome this problem.

-------------

and craig, yes there is a lot of pitching ging on there but its fine. everybody has to make a living and why not advertise for their products on a forum? if the products are c*** (not the best) the word will spread if they are good the same.

and there are a lot of nice and interesting discussions going on there. not only by armchair and keyboard cowboys but by people who perform and make a loving of magic. so why diss them?

best regards

Without seeing the full text of the discussion it's difficult to comment so perhaps we should leave any specifc points to be posted on The Cafe itself?

Let me try again. If this doesn't work then it is the post where they are chattering about "Inner Monologues". At least that is the title of the thread anyway.

http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view ... orum=17&15

Furthermore I must inform Memorire that the magic cafe is supposed to be about "magicians helping magicians" or some such sanctimonious tosh. I must respectully submit to you that the dreadful advice on there would suggest another expression such as "magicians hindering magicians" or alternatively "the blind leading the blind."

Never fear however. I am MARK LEWIS and am the way, the truth and the light in these matters. I shall shortly inform you and others on the best way to control the attention of children and not have them running loose.

I cannot bear to read the horrific advice on there so in the interests of magical humanity I will deign to explain how to do things properly since I am obviously the best one qualified on these matters to do so.

I do hope the class is going to pay attention.

I am afraid it didn't work again. It is the twelfth post down (at the moment) on the little darlings section and it is entitled "No inner monologue"

Here is a far more illustrious thread on the magic cafe. I am not sure if this link will work either. If it doesn't then go to the Canadian section of the cafe and look at the post about the Browser's Den children's show.

Mark, i dont see you enlightning them there. and you know...in a world full of blinds the one eyed is king ;)

Walt and Kyle on the other hand wrote some good stuff. To be honest i diddnt read the whole thread since the matter does not interest me that much but i did read some pretty awful replies in there ;) but you cant generalize on a whole forum out of a thread ;)

best regards

I did not say that I was going to enlighten them on there. I am going to enlighten them on here. You can send them over if you wish. That is if you really want to help magicians help magicians. Mind you I think they are all beyond help after writing that load of codswallop.

Walt and Kyle did NOT write good stuff. They wrote just as much tosh as everyone else.

Again I am the way, the truth and the light. I shall shed some when I am in the mood.

You'll soon learn. Don't speak against Mark or the rest of the elite, it's bound to get deleted.
