well, theres no stipulation of:

where you meant a chain, as in a gold chain that you wear, with rings on it
nor the size of the rings
so it could be 7 rings worn on a chain - so one cut of the chain would release them all...
or, one bigger silver ring, with 6 smaller ones looped singularly onto the big one...

:D

Yeah you still only need one cut, although three pieces, by looping the chain around on itself, you make one cut between link one and two, and between three and four.... one cut of two parts of chain....

2 cuts? So you've got 1 ring 2 rings and 4 rings. 1st day 1 ring, 2nd day give 2 receive back 1, 3rd day give 1 ring, 4th day receives 3 rings back and gives 4 rings, 5th day gives 1 ring, 6th day received single ring back and gives 2 rings, 7th day gives single ring.

If this is correct... er... how about...

Heronjester, right answer. Wrong number. You only need one cut on the third ring which splits it as you say. Faerie, right cuts, way off on how!!!!

An old lady is sleeping in her bungalow one afternoon. A man comes over to the house. He is not a burger and does not enter the house. When he leaves the lady is dead. The man does not know that he has killed her. What happened?

Note- This is a very old riddle that I heard years ago, so the solution may no longer be realistic
