Anyone who has bought a Monte routine in the past few years other than C.O.P...especially Stand Up Monte. Really dislike it myself. Confusion isn't magic.

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

I assume you're talking only about stand up monte routines here. It's great to have one stand up monte (not that I've learnt one yet), and one for when you're sat with a few people across from you at a table, for which the Skinner monte is perfect.

Just reprinted Corner of Piccadilly as it has been a best-seller for over ten years now. Cheers, PG

I've performed it a lot and I'm loving it.

I particularly like that it is (or can be) presented as 'how gamblers cheat' rather than as a magic trick, which makes it perfect for some of the more difficult spectators, the sort who shout out random nonsense like 'he turned over two cards' or 'he's got another card there' even when they haven't seen a thing (they're maybe just guessing). You can say, 'Yes, that's how they do it, that's how they cheat', and they can't really argue with that.

So very true! Yes, even if they think they know what you are doing - the KILLER ending is, well, a KILLER!

Thanks for the kind words, PG

Yes, there's the fact that you're showing them how gamblers cheat (rather than performing a magic trick) so if they do genuinely catch you out a bit (or just guess something that may or may not be correct), it doesn't destroy the routine.

Plus, perhaps more importantly, there's far too much going on for them to guess everything. One way or another, you're always two steps ahead.

And yes, that ending is a killer. It always amazes me that it takes them by surprise so much, given all that has happened before that stage, but it does.

This is one of the only real down-sides to Paul's packet stuff - he often doesn't teach the required counts, either assuming you should already know them, or encouraging you to learn elsewhere :?

I'll PM ya a link, Master Tee, which should help :D

Aye, luckily they're generally basic and youtube is on hand to help. The quality of the cards is top notch though and makes up for that minor inconvenience.

I'll certainly look over Paul's stuff next time I can afford a new effect.

Most of the required sleights are available, for FREE, via a video tutorial by yours truly on my website. But, yes - i do "assume" a certain knowledge. If not, each booklet would be a book.

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. One promise: ALL my packet tricks are WORKERS. I use them all at gigs.

Yours, Paul Gordon

I bought the poker sized cards from Paul at the Leamington day of magic because they suited my particular style and patter! This is a must buy for any serious stroller who, like me, does a fair amount of walk about magic! Paul's 'Dazzle' is also worth tracking down.

No Worries Paul!

A few months ago (I doubt if you'll remember) but I rang you for a copy of 'Dazzle' but sadly you reported they were no longer available. I tracked a set down via a kindly dealer I know and I have to say that its been a winner! I'm a huge fan of killer endings and like C.O.P, Dazzle certainly delivers on that score! In my opinion, a great contribution to every magician's bag of tricks! Many Thanks Paul! (PS: See you at Blackpool!)

Thank you. Dazzler was very popular when it first came out some 15 years ago! Long time ago! By the way, do check my website for more 'kicker' ending packet tricks. All workers, too... PG (yes, see you in bpool)

This is the best monte I have come across yet, all you use is normal cards, brilliant.

The extra touches don't do it for me, the std version is just brilliant when presented as let me show you how they cheat.
