PAUL GORDON'S CORNER OF PICADILLY

Postby dat8962 » Feb 2nd, '09, 21:44

I've searched for a review, incouding a Google search but turned up nothing so here goes.

The Effect

The blurb from the packaging...........

Corner of Piccadilly features a GORGEOUS 'long' set of cards; as used by Peter Kane in his GYPSY CURSE original trick. These cards are easy to handle and look great; the look genuinely antique!

Remember; Corner of Picadilly is a GAFF-FREE (no fake cards) trick. You end clean. Easy reset! See the VIDEO DEMO. No awkward Hamman Count; Corner of Picadilly is much easier than that!!

A three/four Card Monte with a SURPRISE KICKER ending! Three RED cards and one BLACK card are used in a three-card monte routine (no hard moves); but - you end up with THREE BLACK cards and ONE RED card! No heavy-duty switches...looks great!

Easy to do, no gaffs, easy reset and starts and ends clean! A professionals routine. It's the ONLY routine of this type I'd ever use! It's visual, magical and can be done standing or at tables... Nothing to hide...looks great. AND - you get all the cards; great-looking antique reproduction cards from the 18th Century. IDEAL PROFESSIONAL STROLLING TRICK

Cost

£15 from Paul Gordon

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

It's easy to do but has some basic sleights. Probably a 2 but looks like a 5+ to your audience

Review

I bought this at the SEMC after seeing Paul demo it at his lecture. When it comes to card tricks I'm pretty fussy but I instantly saw the potential of this to fit straight into my working routine.

It took around an hour to read the booklet from cover to cover and to put the working sequence together and thereafter I pretty much had the routine nailed, other than practicing it to how I wanted it.

The cards that are supplied are pretty much perfect and fit your hand like a glove and the quality is impressive. The cards are made in Germany and look just like an authentic period deck should. You could but wouldn't want to use any other cards.

I've shown a few people CoP today and they've all been left speachless - just as they should be.

I just love the simplicity of this routine and the jaw dropping responses that something so easy can create. The misdirection is so simple yet so pure and this is probably the best Monte routine that I've seen and is by far the best that I've performed.

Overall

Easily a 10 out of 10.

That's a VERY kind and generous review. Thank you. Of all the marketed "packet" tricks I've created over the last 20 years, Corner of Piccadilly IS my most popular and best-selling.

Best, Paul Gordon

How did you get away with being at the SEMC and Blackpool?

I thought that everyone was banned by Blackpool.

Corner of Picadilly is a seriously good piece of card magic and I recommend it to everyone. I can't stop performing it and got some more great reactions today.

I wrote this short review elsewhere online, however I believe it's time to reprint it here:

Let me tell you that Corner of Picadilly is an extremely good packet trick!!
I have been working through Paul's effect and found his written directions easy to follow. There are no real hard moves to learn and all the dirty work is beautifully covered by the story you create during C.O.P. Paul gives you a general outline, but you can add into the story to make the effect suit your performing personality. The cards provided are a true delight. They have an antique look to them and they are longer than normal. The elongated cards add to the mystery and story revolving around C.O.P. All in all, the effect is super easy to learn and you end clean with everything examinable at the conclusion.

Best Magical Regards,

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and was really impressed with it. It was just the non-gaffed version I was looking for, and the ending is excellent. The demo Paul does is superb.

Ace review dat!

I've had this trick a while now but have always had a little trouble with the instructions. Would anyone be able to help a little?
Thanks

What trouble are you having?

They are fairly simple to follow and I'd suggest that you re-read them and break the routine down into small parts.

If you're still having problems then you may wish to contact Paul direct. He's a nice guy and I'm sure that he will offer you soe tips with the parts that you're having difficulty with.

Good luck
