CORPORATE CLOSE UP 2 - VOLUME 1

Postby dat8962 » Feb 8th, '09, 13:36

The Effect

First, the blurb from the box!

In Volume 1, Martin Sanderson taught you some great routines that were perfect for the expanding corporate market. Now, in Volume 2, no less than eight top corporate close up magicians have got together to take YOU to the next level. Finally the secret is out!

Contents

Arrival - Meet your hosts Harry Robson and Mike McClean as they discuss dealing with the client, how to get the staff on your side, and what to look for in the room that you're about to work.

The Survival Kit - What to carry to your shows and why they're so important....and we're not talking about the magic!

Pocket Management - The Do's and Don'ts that will make you magic that much slicker.

Approach - Learn just what to look for when approaching a group and spot the hidden tell tale sings of what just makes a good and bad table.

Opening Effects - making a great first impression. Now learn just what kind of effects work for our experts and why.

Ian Moran's Ideal Opener - A fast and snappy, two signed card transposition and something that Ian uses as his opener at corporate events around the world.

Cold Cut Transpo - The brilliant routine form Shaun McCree which is fast and gets you 'in' with your group instantly. Fast and fantastic!

Interacting - The best way to interact with a group.

Gang of Four - Learn just why this is the perfect routine when working for larger groups.

Dealing with a No! - How to deal with rejection and make it turn to your advantage.

Mr. Dog's Wibbly Wobbly - An easy to do routine that involves that whole table and uses an item you probably already own.

Bonus Feature - The Martin Sanderson Ambitious Card Routine.

Running Time Approximately 1hr 39min

Cost

£15 direct from RSVP Magic. I’ve seen these advertised by some dealers at around £28 per DVD and I’ve not found the RSVP price bettered.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Between 2 and 3 (relatively easy for a worker)

Review

I been a great fan of Martin Sanderson’s first Corporate Close-up DVD and I still use a couple of the routines to this day (chop cup and card to wallet). Volume 1 was a great help to me when I first started out and this title was all the more intriguing because of its predecessor.

The production is very good which is what most have come to expect from RSVP titles and this doesn’t disappoint.

The routines taught on volume 2, part 1 are fairly simple to learn but are indeed great workers. One thing that I’ve learnt through working is that you don’t need knuckle-busting sleights and routines to entertain. Ian Moran’s ideal opener and cold cut transpo are my favourite two routines but you may think different.

The advice and guidance given is not earth moving and is mostly common sense but that’s something that is easy to say when you’ve been out and worked. However, it’s sometimes useful to see what others are doing.

For someone who doesn’t have the experience and who is considering their first booking then this DVD will offer greater value. You’ll most likely pick up a few good tricks as well as a load of useful tip that will cover the cost of the DVD anyway, so in this respect it’s definitely worth close consideration.

Overall

This is a good DVD for those starting out, or for those who have been asked to perform somewhere and don’t know where to start.

It’s not quite up to the standard set by Martin Sanderson in volume 1 and some of the volume 1 content is covered again and I don't mean the bonus ACR. Despite this, there are still relatively few DVD’s on the market in this price range that deal with the commercial side of performing and this is one of the best that I’ve seen.

8.5/10

This should be on the wish list for those wanting to make the transition from hobbyist to worker.

Hi Dat,

May I ask which you recommend getting for some who's just starting out from hobbist to worker: volume 1 or volume 2.

Many thanks,

HJ

£15!

How can I not buy it!

Hi HJ

I should mention that I have volume 2 of Corporate Close-up 2 to review and will be writing that review when I've finished watching it later on.

If I may ask you to wait until then before spending your hard earned money, as ithe 2two disk set may represent better value buying both volumes of CC-up 2 for £30, as opposed to just one disk of CC-up 1 for ver £20 (although you could get second hand for cheaper).

Incidentally, Martin Sanderson's follow up to CC-up 1 was disapointing frommy perspective and I reviewed both on TM but couldn;t find the reviews using the search due to time (mrs dat wanted to go to the supermarket  ).

If someone else can find them and post the links then please feel free to add these.

Hope that this helps

I use a couple of effects off these (above) DVDs. I've been waiting on a review of CC 2 since they caught my eye.

Thanks Dat! :D

I have been going through these 3 dvds tonight (They arrived this morning).

Fantastic stuff in them, thanks for the recommendation dat, Russ should be paying you commission!

I think 2 vol 1 is my favorite out of the lot, but almost all the stuff on them is very workable, and very commercial!

Nice, quick, visual and to the point!

Both of these DVDs are absolute winners - I'm sorry, but between RSVPmagic and BBM, the british contingent of magic tuition producers are knocking the pants off the majority of American places - here's looking at you, L&L! (Although this DVD does succumb to the mildly annoying L&L habit of gathering routines from other DVDs - for instance, I already do Shaun McCrees cold cut transpo).

The advice is all pretty good, and the routines are direct and useable - what more do you want?!

My main down point would be Harry Robson doing Gang of Four - made me really want to do the effect but it's pretty expensive to perform regularly :(

I could be mis-remembering this but isn't there are card through hand on these DVDs as well? I learnt a card through hand, using 8 cards - I'm sure it was from one of these - which goes down really well and is very easy, but I don't see it listed there... :?:

I agree 100%, nearly all my recent DVD purchases have been from BBM and now RSVP.

Chris Stevenson does card through hand on close-up 2 Volume 2, it is an eight card version.

One effect that I really love from this DVD is Sean McCree's Razor Sharp.

Hello Everyone,

Glad that you all seem to be enjoying the DVD. I think that all of the magicians involved were incredibly generous with their tips and as a DVD it was great fun to make with so many people.

You may be interested to know that our latest release "Surefire" is out at Blackpool. Be sure to pop by the stand and say hello.

Best,
Russ (rsvpmagic.com)

Ah good, I'm not losing my marbles just yet :D

I'd love to see a clip of that guy (Chris Stevenson) performing in real life though - he seems nice enough and the trick is great but he's not exactly the epitomy of onscreen charisma, is he?!
