The hot foil doesn't requires any gimmicks, just a bit of psychology, your best bet is to try it out in your own hand, tightly squeezing the foil and see what happens when you imagine it getting hot.

I'm not sure about the coin one though.

Not sure if this is relevant but if you stick the ball of foil across the terminals of an ordinary PP3 battery it will get pretty hot as you're causing a dead short across the terminals. Works great with coins as well!

I'll have to try that, how do you disguise the leads when your spec is holding the foil?!

When it happened to me there were no leads or wires, I had a PP3 battery out of a radio mike in my trouser pocket and a coin just sort of made it's way across onto the terminals. The first I knew was when things got a bit warm in the trouser department which was unfortunate as I was in the outside lane of the M5 heading South at the time and a lot of wriggling about took place to change the situation! Many moons ago you could buy kits to cut out shapes from polystyrene ceiling tiles using a hot wire thingy which was using the same principle.

I hadn't thought about it as an effect until I saw this posting but if the battery is just palmed pretty much as though it were a TT, it might be possible to warm up the foil or coin by just resting it on the finger and thumb at the top of your fist - a borrowed coin would be more effective. Come to think of it, if you did this using wires, the insulation would get hot and melt as well so direct to the terminals would be safest.

The hot foil thing was an effect that you used to be able to buy called "Too Hot Too Handle". The effect was withdrawn form the market place as the liquid (to make the foil get hot) that was used was found to be carcenogenic. I do believe that there is a new version that doesn't have the same deadly properties. It is quite a nice effect as the foil does get so hot you can't hold it (and it works with any foil wrapper).

... good stuff!

Also, check this little 'weirdness' out...

I've never seen this published anywhere, but here you are, guys, just for you!

Take a 10p coin. Explain to the speccy that it's quite light, because it's made out of a light metal. As you ask them to feel it's weight, perform a false-transfer and stuff a 2p into their hand. Ask them to grip it tightly... this is important.

Now, gesture for them to turn their hand with the back of the hand towards the floor, still gripping the coin.

With an SSUD up your sleeve ;) bring it close below the back of their hand.

Explain that Alchemists could change the properties of metals, blah blah, and go on to say how some metals are HEAVIER than others.

Suggest the coin is getting heavier. Of course, it will be, as the forces of magnetism go to work on the copper plated 2p, which is actually ferrous (attracted to magnets) inside.

Say that 2p's, because of their value being less than a 10p, are made of a cheaper metal, which is heavier than the posh alloy 10p. When they open their hand, voila.

Sounds nice!

The foil one I read didn't use any chemicals or batteries or anything, just good old fashined words and two screwed up bits off tinfoil. It was pretty cool to do as well.

the kenedy half could well have been a china town half with an off stage bang for misdirection or just a palm change, bobo change etc.

as to the heated foil i remember doing it with a piece of air reactive paper balled up inside the foil after a few seconds the spec had to drop the foil, i remember somepeople used to much and the specs were burnt so it had to be withdrawn due to health and safety thoughs kill joys

Surely the coin trick would involve a simple switch. Get a duplicate coin a drill a hole in it. Palm the holed coin show the real one throw the holed coin in the air. As the coin clatters onto the table dump the orignal coin in your pocket. Coin now has a hole in it.

As for the bang not sure maybe someone was trying to assassinate him but missed.

forget what i said above re the coin thats for cahngeing a half into a chineese coin  .

a bobo switch would do the kenedy half hole routine very nicely thuogh.

If you are looking for the tin foil trick look out for Hypno Heat, its a chemical thats added to the foil which I believe is safe. A few dealers still stock the item.

I have to mention that when I first learned it I didn't even realise that there were gimmicked versions available. Admittedly i have only used this version a couple of times but it works very well.

just thought i would add a recent finding i have found!!

while at davenports a gentleman came in and asked for the "foil trick where it gets hot" but as you say its withdrawn however the fellow behind the counter said about Big red chewing gum as it is cinumum(sorry for spelling) it reactes with sirlivar (spit) and gets hot. so if you take the foil off and lick it, it gets hot therefor if you putit on some ones hand or forhead it will feel like its getting hot.
