Price: two thousand pennies, a score, twenty notes guvnor...

Why is this only a mini review, iain - you lazy bearded twonk?
Because i've only just got it this afternoon - and watched only the performances thats why you ungrateful toad...

Well then, whats it all about?

At least you didnt finish that sentence with "Alfie"...i take it you've done the decent thing and clicked on the link above? that explains what each effect is - and there's a few demos too.

So, you're being quite lazy and slightly cretinous then?

Yes, yes i am...

How much longer are you going to be keeping up this facade of this strange kind of interview, conducted between yourself and yourself?
I'll let you know....next question?

Ok, well then...what was your overall thoughts on the performances?

Great question. Well, let me start off by saying out of all the newer card workers - i think dave is my favourite. I once met him queueing for the toilets at a mentalist's meeting in london a couple of years back. I don't think he appreciated me standing in the cubicle as he was widdling. That part may have been a dream.

Urination aside - dave seems a very nice chap. I like his laid back persona. I'm sure he could batter you if you talked cheap about him, but i genuinely think he's got a good approachable manner about him.

Are you saying you love dave?
No. Not at all. Well..maybe a little.

Please continue...
well, its those eyes..oh i see...yes, i think his delivery is very clear, there's no cheesy lines, he's slightly laconic and his presentations are usually very interesting. I enjoy watching him. This dvd...

Finally! The f&*king review!
Stop interrupting me...yes, this dvd actually delivers for the most part what the link at the very top says. He's not gone and converted some old tricks from Scarne and Annemann and just said "oooh right, this is like, y'know totally in your mind right?" and bashed out an old card classic and just made it mento-predicto...

Is that a made up word?
yes it is...may i continue?

Please do...though, you do realise this will probably be quite annoying to the reader?
Indeed. That's why i've done it. Anyway, i would say that if you like the card effects in Practical Mental Effects (magic) by Annemann, a touch of Ben Earl (wash your hands credit-fans) and some different visual card effects within a mind-reading/memory work style - then this covers those two areas very nice.

Why - you big hairy idiot? Why do you say that?
Because its what i think. Its good to see him present the effects to 3 people too (mainly). Gives you a sense of a nice little parlour gig or something if you imagine a small audience watching.

There's some sealed predictions, some multi-mind reading nuances, some weird spectator as mind reader work too...

And the final effect is so lovely its one of the reasons why i didnt watch the revelations; because i dont want to know how its done for a couple of days...its called "The Man Who Paints the Future".

Ok. Anything else to add, before we draw this long and drawn out "mini review" thats stopped being amusing a long time ago to some kind of meaningful conclusion?
Why yes, yes there is...I hope people who "like to put a bit of mentalism into their act" do not buy this. I tihnk Dave has created some elegant little pieces of theatre in this dvd; and i think people would just use a piece or two from this and "whack it in", without thinking about what they are doing.

Yes - that was me being a snobby mentalist.

There's plenty of scope to alter the presentation angles. There's a few things i'd do differently from the first watch - but thats just to suit me. And its something we should all do. Playing cards can sometimes benefit from converting to say word cards as an example.

Anyway - in summing up, its nicely shot - well presented, and for twenty quid - very good value.

8.5/10

The Man Who Paints The Future is lovely. I followed part of the procedure, so technically the final reveal wasn't all that surprising, but I got a shiver nevertheless. Powerful things, paintings.

I also like Dave's laid back style. But I'm not in love with him (yet). And I also like your unique style of review. Well done, you bearded twonk. ;)

I would say that he handles cards too well. Jealousy, or a valid point about presenting card-based mentalism? You be the judge.

(and while we're on the subject, Michael Murray really needs to stop riffling his damned Zeners!)

I must confess that I used to riffle my Zeners but had to stop when I developed a rash.

I think you'll find all my writing contains proper punctuation and grammer, at least to the best of my ability, a trait that is very different in yours
