Card Tricks

The Effect.

This is a very easy and extremely visual version of the all time classic "cards across" routine. It will will leave your audience absolutely gobsmacked.

Four red cards are openly displayed, counted and held by the spectator. I can’t stress enough at how fair this part of the effect is. No dreaded Emlsey’s, in fact no sleight of hand at all. You even get the spectator to count the cards into your hand before handing them back for the spectator to hold and keep secure.

You then pick up a set of 4 blue cards, show them as being all different, and ask a second spectator to randomly select one. You stress that this could have been any of the four and then ask the spectator to hold out their hands as you place the four blue cards for them to keep secure.

By this point the magic has already occurred. The rest is just fun and presentation.

You ask the second spectator to name the card that was selected, and then invisibly take the card from their sealed hands and transfer it to the sealed hands of the first spectator.

Yeah right.

The second spectator is asked to open their hands, and you take out the three cards that are now there. Yes you heard. There are only three. They are placed on the table in clear sight of everyone. No R&S. no repositional glue, just three blue backed playing cards.

You walk over to he first spectator. Already your audience is ahead of you. "No, surely not, it can’t be so".

You ask the first spectator to open their hands and take out the 5 cards there. They are spread to clearly show that between the 4 red backed cards is now a fifth blue backed card. You take out the blue backed card and ask the second spectator to again name their card at the same time slowly turning over the blue backed card.

A miracle.

Difficulty. 2/5
1=Even I can do it, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Very easy. There is one move that could be considered a sleight, but in fact when demonstrated by Bob King, this move can be and in fact should be eliminated, as there is a simpler and more effective method.

Review.
What more can I say except that it plays just as described. Bob King demonstrated many effects at his recent lecture at the Ipswich Magical Society, and most of them can be considered as very strong magic.

For me though, this one was one of the highlights.

As I mentioned, before Bob King has come up with (IMO) an improved handling from that given in the instructions. (if you do purchase this then please feel free to pm me for more info)

Rating. Effect/item: 9/10, Quality of goods: 10/10, Value for money: 9/10

Bottom Line.
This may not be one for the purists out there as frankly it may just be too easy for you :) , but sometimes an effect like this is just what is needed. Personally I love it, and in many ways it’s a shame it was demonstrated at the IMS, as I would have loved to demonstrate it there myself.

In short it’s a real Magicians Fooler, which should come as no surprise as its being promoted by Bob King.

This trick is from the brilliant mind of Phil Goldstein need we say any more.

This is one of those moments where the spectators eyes will fall out of there heads (you may even get an L&L Pub reaction from the audience for real!!).

It really is unbelievable, but it can't be because you have just seen it.

Outrageous!

I totally agree that this is a stunning piece of 'magic'.

I am having trouble with one part ( i dont know if I am allowed to say the name in the open forum), let me try without saying too much.

After the spectator has remembered their stopped at card, there is a form of sleight that is done to make the card vanish (if you understand). Everytime I try this it makes too much noise. and further tips on this move would be appreciated. Also if there are any videos/DVDs that someone can recommend to help with this.

Thank you

Ive pm'd you Thylacine.

Hopefully you'll agree That that move is just not needed, and in fact the trick can be enhanced if you DON'T use it...

Thank you.

If anyone else has the trick I recommend they PM you as well for these 'updated' instructions. They really make a difference.

Bob King includes a set of instructions to avoid the "move" with the ones he sells.

Thanks Alan. That is useful to know. It must be something he has only recently started doing though...

Ok, it's 18 months since the last post on this topic, but hopefully someone will respond.
The only demo vid I can find is on www.MagicBox.uk.com (NB NOT .co.uk)
I also can find no mention of this trick on the Bob King site

The count of the first 4 cards is amazing. The spectator spreads them in her hands. When the extra card appears amongst them it is awesome.

But I was quite put off by the handling of the other 4 cards. The way he showed the 4 cards was very unnatural & suspicious. Also you can see him do the move that make the card vanish.

The earlier posts have already mentioned that the vanish can be improved (or done away with entirely). Can the count also be improved upon??? I am trying to decide whether to buy this or some other cards-across effect.

I agree with that, It doesnt look very good on that video, I am 90% sure I know how that part of the effect works but I might still buy the trick to see how the card is hidden in the first pile!!!

very good.

Hmm...I'm not sure I like that, although the blue card appearing amongst the reds is trés impressive (je parle francais - not) the handling of the second pile does seem very awkward. Does the other handling reduce that at all?

N.B. The address for Magicbox is infact .com, even though it is a UK site. It's sort of like www.firebox.com (don't go there by the way, you will spend more).

I don't really want to get into a discussion of URL naming conventions here. Their site name is somewhat unusual. Took me a while to find my way back to it because I only remembered the main part, not the suffixes.

It is NOT magicbox.com
It is NOT magicbox.co.uk

It IS magicbox.uk.com

Presumably because it is an extremely fast way to get from A to B.
And it's memorable.
