i may of reviewd this here before, but since something on this has come up in conversation, i thought id reprint my review from bunny a few years back.
Those that know me, know that i am not a move junkie, and not much of a card freek, which is why i jumped at the new d.v.d from Meir Yedid,
" Karl Norman's close up table magic".
Karl, has over 50 years of working as a pro table magician, many of them, at the Forks hotel in Buffalo, home to Eddie Fechter's 4 F's convention.
Whilst none of the effects are new, this spritly 85 year old man passes on many tips and hints you will find nowhere else.
The effects are as follows.
THE COIN COLLECTION.
A routine melding together two clasics, the Okito box, and Copper ,Silver, Brass.
The extra kicker at the end was a genuine surprise, and his turn over move with the box, a pure gem.Worth the price of the video on it's own.
THE WHOLE CARD
A number of unusual cards are shown to the spectator. Unusual in that they have blue backs on both sides. All except one, which has red backs. so that you can tell the difference, this red/red card has a large hole cut in it's center. Through the effect, it jumps almost visibly from one hand to another, somethimes changing colour on the way. At the end, the effect is re- set, and ready for the next table.
A gem with very simple moves even i can do!! ( and he does them at the finger tips, not deep in the hand )
COIN IN BOTTLE
This all happens in the spectators hands, and they can examine everything at the end.
INVISIBLE SKY HOOK
A very nice rope effect, where a knot is removed from a rope, is made invisible, then visibly appears back on the rope. An effect that can be added to any rope routine.
THE MATCH BOXES
The clasic sympathetic match boxes, routined with the original version of the effect in where a match box is penetrated with a ribbon, even though, a steel plate fills it inside. Nothing in this is gimmicked. And it is soooo good.
I have personal memories of David Nixon doing this on television many, many years ago.In fact, this effect is
One of the reasons i got into magic!
SHRINKING GIANT
One of 3 cards, stretches in length, and width, then shrinks to an examinable mini card.
Very nice.
CARD TO CASE.
A lesson in misdirection, and one you will use!
CARD ON FOREHEAD.
Some more briliant hints in audience management given here
RING FLITE
A practical handling, which gets rid of many angle problems ascociated with the clasic moment
CHANGE OF A QUATER
Two cards are selected. One is cut into quarters and changes places with the first selected card that is being held by a spectator. The four pieces are gathered and restored to a whole card
BILL IN CIGARETTE
A corner is ripped off a borrowed bill and the bill is placed in an envelope. The bill vanishes and appears inside a borrowed cigarette. The previously ripped corner matches perfectly to the bill in the cigarette.the best thing about this, is the gimmick Karl has created to make the rolling up of the note a doddle. someone should sell these!!
LINKING PINS
very visual, and very practical.
CARD ON CEILING
Detailing on how the deck should spin as it goes up, and a fantastic tip on how to load the wax, make this a gem!
THE 3 SHELL GAME.
I have never seen this explained better. Just a few basic moves, shown on a glass plate, and you learn enough to go out and slay them!
IT'S THE NUTS
Karls handling of Finn Jon's nut and bolt effect. So good, i may very well start wowing people with this wonderfull effect once again!
And Finaly,
THE TORN AND RESTORED CIGARETE.
An Impromptu, Gimmick free, effect. The cig can be signed if you wish, and can be smoked straight after. There is no doubt at all that t his is going into my repetoir!
I want to be this good at 85. Heck, now would be nice!!
Recomended....
