But one would be hard pressed to explain how someone new to this forum that's made only one post -- one defending you and your products -- happened to just show up without any kind of invite/encouragement.
This, I must tackle!

Yes, I have only made one or two posts here, however, if you would care to take a look at when I joined, you'll be surprised to see that it was 5 July, 2008!

Yes, this was I think, my first or second post!

Why have I not posted much before?...For two reasons, 1. I forgot that this forum even existed and that I was member! And, 2. When I did visit this forum in the past, I found that I, on a personal level, prefered other forums and not this one...but I can't quite remember why(?)

As has been explained and as I have previously stated, Mr Cumberland, in no uncertain circumstances, ask me to come and make a post, defending him/his products!

I hope this helps clear up a few things...

My apologies for the delay, I've been on the road for a week with limited email in some of the more rural places I've traveled.

Ultimately, we have the following: the real reason that Craig cannot provide proof to back up his claim is this: I have never stated that I would sue anyone for a truthful review of any of my products.

That said, I simply will not stand to have anyone lie about me, or smear my excellent and hard-earned reputation with lies.

Clearly, Craig doesn't like my stuff and is very, very angry towards me. We first met online back in 1997 when he pleaded with me for a free copy of my first book, citing that he was ill and broke. I felt for him and gave it to him. Over the years, he's asked for "review" copies and I have given him literally thousands of dollars of my stuff. I've since stopped. Perhaps that's where it comes from. I don't know.

I wish Craig the best.

As to the comments/reviews that my stuff is produced in low budget format, it's 100% true. And do you know the name of the very first person to point that out?

The first person to ever point that out was... me. :)

For those that read the sales letters, you'll note that I state that plainly. Sleightly Crazy asked about the CMR dvds. Read the letter. It's there in the PS.

And as for scripting? No. I don't. I do use an outline, but I talk to you like you and I are sitting at a bar, or in a living room... whatever. I have MORE than enough positive response and customer successes to indicate that this has been very successful. It seems to work for me.

The price issue? Yep. I charge a LOT for my stuff. See, I choose to value my stuff. As do my customers. Yes, you can most certainly--in most cases--get the same stuff for cheaper. No arguing that. Take the Annemann Act, for instance. You can get the Annemann original for $3.00. You can get my updated version for $45. I even boldly tell people, you don't need my book. You can go learn it--the hard way--like I did. Or, you can get my perspective. I make no apology for price. I'm full-time. I'm not a dreamer. You're getting the real-deal with me.

One thing I've learned: The fastest way to unhappiness is trying to make everyone happy! It can't be done. And, unlike most of my mentalism counterparts, I have a 100% money back guarantee. So, if you get my stuff and don't like it... you can send it back for a refund. And, as you can see by the unsolicited testimonials, I deliver. :-)

I'm done here. I believe that this has been a very revealing thread.

What an odd coincidence! I see that Mr Robertson/Cumberland uses precisely 15 chairs on stage in his high school hypnosis shows. So do I. It appears that great minds think alike.

Not to go off topic but I often think that some hypnotists use far too many chairs and far too many volunteers and the show can get very messy and unweildy. 15 is the absolute maximum in volunteers I will use otherwise things get very untidy.

I note he also has them in a straight line rather than a semi-circle which seems to be the fashion with some performers. I also work in a straight line too.

Hello to one and all,

I've just recently acquired myself Mr Stuart Cumberland’s dvd’s ‘Inside Secrets of Contact Mind Reading Revealed’ which can be found here…
http://www.mental-list.com/inner-secret ... vealed.htm

Having watched the dvd’s, I’d like to give my review of this product, so those of you who don’t have them know what you’re truly missing out on.

I have, over the years, amassed a heck of a lot of the information available relating to CMR. However none of it even comes close to the dvd’s by Mr Cumberland.

Mr Cumberland takes you through from the very basics to the advanced intermediate techniques of CMR. (“Why doesn’t he explain the expert techniques?”, I hear you cry…because the only thing that will teach you that is actual experience using the CMR techniques that he explains!) What’s more, he explains everything in an oh-so-easy to understand, step by step fashion.

(The highlight for me, is that he explains something(s) that I think is, for me, the missing link. It probably explains why my previous attempts at CMR have ‘crashed and burned’.)

For the most part, except for a small segment from a television show, (which goes to prove that Mr Cumberland uses this in the real world!), Mr Cumberland’s dvd’s is shot with Mr Cumberland sat talking to one camera. Some, in the past, have criticized this. Well, I for one, loved the one camera shot deal…it made it feel like Mr Cumberland made the dvd just for me…and like Mr Cumberland was sat in my living room giving me private lessons in CMR!

If you want a demonstration of real mind reading that you can perform (to borrow a Marc Paul expression), ‘Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere’ then you need to learn CMR and when it comes to learning CMR, this is the best (and possibly, the only) investment that you’ll ever need to make.

Marks out of 20 = An unreserved 20/20!!!

Value for money? DEFINITELY! (Yes, I know you may think that the price tag is a little more than normal but you must remember you're getting two dvd's so the price is about normal for trade dvd's. And you'd probably spend that much on all the other products on the market just to learn everything that you could learn in this set of dvd's...and even then, there'd still be stuff that you wouldn't learn, (and you'd certainly not learn it as easily and as fast as), if you didn't have this set of dvd's.)

Hope this helps and my warmest regards,

Martin King

Forgot to mention the following as well...

I must just address another criticism that Mr Cumberland has received with reference to this product. The criticism that his dvd’s are not a professional looking product…I say to this (as Mr Cumberland would say,) ‘Bullpoop’!

The cover of the dvd boxes and the dvd’s themselves both have professional packaging that would look good on any bookshelf! (However, my super-duper new 'trade' dvd's are not bought to be on show for my non-magical friends…My 'trade' dvd’s are for my eyes only!)

I'm writing this in response to Martin King and his review. Mr. Cumberland was generous enough to send me a complimentary copy of his CMR videos. I appreciate his generosity, but much of the material was already familiar, granted, from several sources.

I learned CMR through reading Banachek's book and watching his PSI Series DVDs. I practiced often about a year ago, but am still nowhere near skillful and am currently rather under-practiced. I watched his disk and found many things to be familiar. The only thing that comes to mind that I haven't seen or read anywhere is the PKC Technique, which I must say looks very effective. Credit where it's due, that's a very clever technique. However, everything else is available in the Banachek material and in the Hellstromism booklet by Nelson.
For technical material, I would give an 9/10, He teaches the methods to CMR and a newcomer to the technique would be able to learn with just this disk.
For value, I would have to lower the score a bit to about 5/10 since, unlike many other resources, you don't get an understanding of the history. Also, I'm sure that one can obtain the three resources I named above and find much more information albeit without the PKC grip. Similar technique are described in the Banachek material, so it's hard to judge its value by itself.

Mr. Cumberland does seem to be a nice guy though, so I can't see what problems Craig has with him... :?

I haven't viewed anything by Mr Cumberland or Mr Banacek on contact mind reading so I won't comment either way. However I think I should mention that Stanton Carlisle wrote a very useful book on the subject. It was published by Edwin of Supreme Magic a good long while ago.

The book is inexpensive but the main reason I can recommend it is that it gives you a very good system of practicing it. Very practical and efficient.

Who was Stuart Cumberland

Postby Allen Tipton » Oct 27th, '09, 15:16

To answer Sleighty Crazy's second part of his question.
Re Stuart Cumberland in the 1800's

He was born in London in 1857. He took the stage name 'Charles Garner' fior a while. Then he bacame an assistant to the legendary Washington Irving Bishop; learning the methods of contact mind reading from him.

Having done this he became Stuart Cumberland again, touring the USA, Europe, Australia & Portugal with his contact mind reading & exposure of spiritualistic tricks.
He published his memoirs in 1888- 'A Thought Reader's Thoughts'.
This was followed by a sequel in 1918=='The Other World'.

He died in 1922.

If you want to know more about Stuart Cumberland (1800's), the excellent Miracle Factory has a CD of his stuff:

'Our Stuart Cumberland: The Victorian Mind Reader CD brings you all of his rare mindreading publications, as well as several Cumberland-penned articles on psychic subjects and two other books recounting his travels around the world.
With the help of mentalism historian Barry Wiley, we've also collected for you articles on his career from the Victorian press; his rare Cumberland News souvenir newspaper; and a complete Cumberland bibliography.'

This is an old thread, but I just saw Stephen's and Allen's posts.

Thank you both for the info, Allen for clarifying the historical Cumberland and Stephen for the link. Merry Christmas.
