Is Magic Mart .co.uk a SCAM??

Postby janitso » Jun 12th, '09, 12:52

The reason why I ask this is simply because I ordered a trick from them nearly THREE WEEEKS ago which still hasnt arrrived.
I have emailed them FOUR times now but havent heard anything back.
Has anyone ever actually ordered from Magic Mart .co.uk ??

-really disapppointed customer

they are linked via bunny. I wouldnt of thought that anybody dodgy would link through Bunny.

by the way, any chance you can introduce yourself?
you post twice, and only about this issue.

Have you tried ringing them? Their number is on their website.

As previously mentioned, they are connected with magicbunny.

If you go there, a member called 'wayneclancy' owns the shop - shoot him a PM.

All the best,

Josh.

'Morning all,

Despite reading some vaguely-unsettling things about MagicMart.co.uk, and Wayne Clancey, I still decided to give them a try, as their prices seemed VERY good indeed.

To cut a very long story short, my goods failed to arrive, despite some initial assurances from Wayne that they'd been despatched the next working day.

Although Wayne did initially respond to my first email of enquiry, he then went VERY quiet. Trying the telephone number that *was* listed on his site, reveled that the number had been disconnected (this number subsequently vanished from the contact page, when I pointed this out on the MagicBunny.co.uk forums which are hosted on Wayne Clancey's server.)

I subsequently highlighted my problems on MB, where others were expressing similar problems.

Magicmart.co.uk then immediately refunded my payment, whilst still swearing blind that the goods were on the way.

Nearly a week later, and - guess what? They STILL haven't arrived

In short, my experience with Magicmart.co.uk and Wayne Clancey have left me with the distinct impression that they are either simply not fulfilling orders, do not actually hold the stock that they claim to (over on the Bunny, I challenged Wayne on this, and he remained adamant that he had all items on stock...), or are repeatedly very unlucky indeed with the postal service.

In short, whilst I would never claim that magicmart.co.uk IS a scam, I can certainly see how buyers could be left with that impression, after ordering with them.

I'm aware that Wayne Clancey / magicmart.co.uk advertise on TalkMagic, and would strongly suspect that their ad is in no way any kind of TM endorement of their service.

As most folks hereabouts will know, I love to be positive and enthusiastic about magic and dealers (and have had nothing but good experiences with most on-line dealers, over the years), and am unhappy about having to make a post of this nature. That said, I really feel strongly that other potential customers should be aware of this type of experience, so they can make an informed choice when ordering :(

Some magic dealers simply put in every item their wholesalers supply and don't keep much, if any stock. Then when you order products they only then order from their wholesaler. This means you can wait long periods, especially if their whoelsaler is in another country and sometimes being as they have so many products listed on their website, when you do order something, unbeknown to the magic dealer their wholesaler stopped the item long ago and they can't get it in stock.

That's not to say that's the case here. There could be several reasons why you didn't receive your goods, it's just something for members of Talk Magic to be aware of.

The next time you spot a dealer on the web and wonder how on earth the magic dealer can stock 7000 products (especially when the dealers address is clearly a house) you now know why. He's simply copied the whole of Murphy's Magic Supplies,E-Z Magic, etc, etc product list and put it on his website.

Hey Stu,

I did suspect that was the case, and speciofically asked Mr. Clancey - quite directly - about this, to which he responded:

wayneclancy wrote:I am still trading, I have plently of stock and you order was sent out on Wednesday

So, again - he's either chronically unlucky with the Royal Mail, or there must be some other reason why folks aren't recieving what they ordered...

As has already been pointed out there are some on Bunny who are unhappy with Mr Clancey and his company. I don't know what the problem is but it seems to me all is not as Mr Clancey would have us believe. There are too many people complaining and not enough items being delivered.

@Rob

Hi Rob,

Sorry never noticed your reply to me. I wasn't being ignorant! I wouldn't like to comment on another magic dealer, would be very bad form!

All I will say is it does take a while for a dealer to receive wholesale goods from the States, couple that with the wait as the dealer then has to post it in the UK and you, ahem, get a wait of 2 to 3 weeks which is what many people are saying is the waiting time
