It looks a great book Dale. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Must get it.
And in the publicity blurb it was very gratifying to have a synopsis of Merlin, the Musical.
I'm lucky enough to have all his TV Magic Specials, except the first
(Water Torture Cell); we didn't have a video recorder when that was shown.
I also have DH:
Performing ing the Twin Sawing with Maureen Stapleton & a young Rick Schroeder assisting.
The Opening sequence of Merlin; from an awards show.
Our local library borrowed a copy of the song album from Merlin, which also had pics from the show in it. Alas they wouldn't sell it to me, even when I wrote saying it was a 'document' worth preserving as part of Magic's History & no lay people, in the UK, would ever had heard of it!
I tried the publishers but they were 'unknown in this country' Wasn't on the internet then. So ( sh!!) I photo copied it!
Paul Daniels used the opening song, ' Think About Magic' in one of his shows.
A short German TV special.
and , of course, The Magic Show.
I always wondered if, as he 'aged', if he would get rid of the jeans and spangled jump suits.
Now we will never know . But thank heaven for TV which has preserved some of his great performances.
The late David Price, (author of Pictorial History of Conjurors in the Theatre) who owned the Egyptian Hall Magic Museum in USA, wrote to me, several times, when he sent some Dante material and in one letter he said 'he didn't think DH would ever be The Great Illusionist with his squeaky voice.'
