You touch the deck that the initial card selection is made with, though theoretically I suppose you don't need to as long as you're nearby and have tip-top audience control. To be honest this would probably look weirder, especially considering the openness of the card selection to begin with.
In terms of the deck that has the right card at the right number, you definitely don't need to go near it. Will post a review over the weekend hopefully, with the caveat that I won't have performed it.
