Twisted Reality - Tony Hyams

The Effect Ok it's not really an effect as such but what you are getting is a superbly illustrated 41 page PDF that teaches you how to make a Rubber Duck (surely they're all rubber), a Magician, a Rabbit in a Hat, A bird in a cage and a fish on a pole.

Cost http://www.lulu.com/content/e-book/twis ... ty/7332919 £5 that's right only FIVE of your good british pounds, that's practically giving it away I tell you

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Anywhere between 1 and 3 depending on how much twisting of balloons you may have done before. For me the most difficult things in here are the rabbit in a hat and the Magician and I could make him up from week 4 of my balloon twisting. He takes me about 20 minutes now but I'm sure Tony has him down in about 10 minutes.

Review

OK so like most magicians I thought what the heck is all the fuss about balloons but I had a few balloons and a free gift from Penguin some time ago that teaches you a few things. So off I started with a few basics like a sword, the dog/giraffe and erm.... that's about it to be honest. But then Tony goes and releases a truely affordable (£5 really?) really detailed PDF that took my enthusiasm and balloon twisting ability (?) to another level. What you're getting is 41 detailed pages of balloon modelling with a picture for every single step of the way. With this level of information and detail you really can't go wrong in producing some magnificant designs that really grab attention.

I've since bought a few more books on balloon modelling and I have to say for the "bang per buck" this has to be the most detailed and best value so far.

The number of times I've been told by people that Ballooni TheGreat (the magician) is a work of art and that I must do this full time for a living is unbelieveable. And I'm a mere beginner in this world, there really are some tallented people out there! THANK YOU TONY

Ok the models

The duck - To my mind this is the most commerical in that it's quick to make and uses only two balloons but looks stunning. I often make this up just sat in the pub on meet ups and what have you. It's a great looking thing.

The rabbit in the hat - Fun to make and free standing so can be left to it's own devices once made up, It's probably to my mind the most difficult to make on the PDF but others will think other wise I'm sure.

Fish on a Pole - Is exactly that, a fish on a pole. Probably the weakest model in the PDF but that's not to say it's not great it's just a testament to how great the other things are in the book.

Bird in a Cage - A stuninng piece of work that looks fantastic. It's the first thing I wanted to make when I got the book as it looks amazing, it's huge and actually not that difficult to make up

Magician - Well what can I say about this guy, some people call him a monkey until they look more closely, but all! and I mean all people of different ages love this little fella. I make him up all the time and take him everywhere. It sounds crazy but if you've ever wondered what all the fuss is about with balloons then buy this booklet, make up this guy and take him around with you. He gets tonnes of attention and brings lots of smiles to peoples faces.

As I said previous I can make him up in about 20 minutes now down from 30 at the start. A couple of us have even started taking the little dude on adventures, meet ups and nights out. He has his own Facebook page, search "Ballooni TheGreat" [no space in TheGreat] and follow his adventures throught picture captions, blogs and even videos. In a few short weeks he has 170 friends and you can be one too.

So that's the models

Overall At £5 you're getting a bargain. It must have taken hours and hours for Tony to come up with this PDF and the designs are truely breath taking. I've had my first booking for balloons off the back of this stuff and if it wasn't for this book making things so simple I would have left the ballons in the back of the draw never to be touched again.

I've also had a blast with "Ballooni TheGreat" and want you to join in the fun by making him up, taking pictures of him and sending him on to me so upload to his profile!

Go and buy this now no matter what you're level! it's not even the cost of 2 pints and that one booking has paid for it several times over

Thanks Tony, I hope to see more of your work in future 10 out of 10 for me[/b]

I'll agree with every word of this.

If anyone has ever thought "what's the big fuss about balloons?" come and have a night out with me and Agecroft and you'll be asking where to buy balloons and this PDF by the end of it.

It can even turn mentalists!

I've dabbled with balloons for a bit and finally bought this, mainly to make "the magician" (aka Ballooni the Great). My first go took about 20 mins and was a bit scrappy, but I thought I'd take him along to my restaurant gig in the evening. He went down a storm! Everyone wanted their picture taken with him. Lots of people wanted to buy him. Awesome! If you've ever wanted to make more than the predictable one balloon dog then this is the (e)book to buy!
