Penn and Teller's iPhone Trick

Postby damianjennings » Mon Sep 14, 2009 8:08 pm

The Effect

You tell your lovely spec that this week you met AMAZING magicians Penn and Teller. She is clearly impressed.

Any card is named, genuinely free choice. The iphone is handed to speccy with the SMS app open. Teller and Penn both have chats going with YOU the amazing magi. You tell you spec to text either of the famous magicians. After some amusing banter, P or T reveal the card.

Then, the spec sleeps with you.*

Cost

£1.19

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

is zero OK to use?

Review

Lovely. Buy it.

I don't much care for the Rising Card app nor the ESP thingy on the hand one.

This is different. Without giving too much away, obviously you cue the phone the card and then hand it to speccy. But, the delay in the reveal, the familiarity with the SMS app, the funny banter, the different reveals, the clever copy, oh, it's just great.

IMHO, best iPhone magic app so far.

Overall

Buy it. No skill, some clever options for a little skill if you want, great reveal, and just lovely idea.

Well done.

I just got it and been messing around with it for a little while and it looks very cool. It's really customizable so your friends won't guess that it's an app although I think that they'd be suspicious that Penn & Teller are texting me! More of a novelty rather than something a professional would use although ironically a pro would have an easier time convincing spectators that the diabolical duo are conversing with them!

Can't see why a pro wouldn't use it. As you say, a pro would be more able to sell the idea that P&T might be texting them!

Baaa, I think the ESP is pretty OK, P&T one in fact would be even better if you could change their names. Some of us dont actually know P&T :)

If I could change it to Bert Baggins @ the magic shop then someone might believe me!

I take it this will not work on the Touch? Shame.

I am sure it would if you pretended it could text. if they have enabled it to be download by touch users of course. its just an app, so no real texting going on.

This app is really quite poor in my opinion, I downloaded it last week. Shows no real magic as such
