paul brook - one in the hand...

http://www.paulbrook.co.uk/heknows/oneinthehand.htm

"Your participant is stood in front of you. Between the both of you is your clenched fist.

The participant is asked to name a coin that she finds interesting to her, and to also name which side of the coin should have a cross on.... "

What You Get:
E-Book - A 46 page E-Book containing the secret to the effect, scripted routine, along with tried and tested subtleties.

In this E-Book you will learn everything that you will need in order to perform this effect. The E-Book covers the currency for GBP, USD and the Euro. However, it contains all of the information to enable you to perform this effect in ANY CURRENCY! This coin is taken by the participant and can be kept as a keepsake!

What i say:
Again, a lovely thought out piece of mentalism, with Paul's now trademark attention to detail and scripting. Its for the mentalist in your life - however, i can also see this working for the more cerebral magician too...

not had chance to test it out in anger, but i will do tomorrow...

the blurb is 100% true - no shells, no funny coins, no extras thrown in at all at any point...and also an excellent "show me something" kinda effect too...but i can be a lot more than that...

it also works with dollars, euros and other currencies too...

jolly good show 8.5/10

Imagine having all you need to do this effect in your pocket. Walk past that sale rack of mini sharpies and wondered if you need one or could use it in some way?

Now,with coins in your pocket and a key ring sharpie, you can preform an intriguing effect anytime, anywhere. Paul walks you through every aspect of the effect and provides a transnational set of pages so those of you working in non-UK currency will not be disappointed.

The psychological and rhetorical strategies in the book are well conceived and well explained throughout, as are the many different scenarios and counterfactuals. Paul's style is engaging and funny, while the ideas may well apply to other areas of mentalism.

Highly recommended.

I have had a quick look through the manuscript today, and from what ive seen so far, it looks really nice.
I'll have a better idea this evening when i get to have a thorough read. :)

but i will say that as with all of our Pauls works, at first glance there is almost too much info. but this isnt a bad thing, because if you read the publication through carefully, you have a realy nice effect in your repetoir.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I see the price is fifteen pounds for UK buyers versus thirty dollars US for non-UK buyers. That's a difference of @ $5.50. Not much, but since this is an ebook, I was wondering if I could make my payment to the UK site even though I live in Korea. Any ideas?

It's a nice idea. I'll have to play around with it. The description was a bit disingenuous but all magic effect descriptions are. Providing the circumstances play right that is what they'll remember. There are other... options though.

It wasn't quite what I was hoping for but it still seems to be a strong bit of magic.

Harry,

When you start using this you will realise that the hit rate is so high that the 'other options' are rarely needed :)

Cheers,

Oh I'm sure it does. What I was looking for was more of a pub piece than a proper professional piece, something to show mates etc. The other... options... don't quite work in this context.

Harry, with the greatest of respect for Paul, this is why I always try and read reviews before parting with my cash. Let someone else be the guinea pig!

i read and fully understood this effect on the train journey home. I think that it is highly suitable for the pub. However, Its not an effect that will stand constant repeating. Thats not to say that you cant, because you can.
however, its not one for the "show us again mate" crowd which is what Harry is after.

I love this effect. I have performed it nine or ten times and hit everytime.
I have just started using this as a lead in to a confabulation type effect, they go together like cigarettes and coffee.
Cheers paul

Got it. Performed it last night for the first time and the guy threw himself back so far that he fell off his seat.
It created so much attention that people were asking what was going on and I ended up securing a booking with someone, all on the back of the initial guys response. Im away out again tonight.
