Postby Isaac3170 » Sep 23rd, '09, 20:41

Hi i am thinking about getting smash and stab or bish bash bosh
Here is a few questions:
Is it worth it?
which one is better?
is it worth buying stage size?

I own both

In my opinion they are both definately well worth it. Particularly smash & stab.

As to which is the better of the two, this is something that only you can answer and to a great extent will be somewhat dependant on the type of audience that you perform to. In my opinion Smash & Stab is wholly unsuitable for a family audience due mainly to the copycat effect whereas an adult only audience would probably appreciate smash and stab more as an effect.

If you buy bish bash bosh first then you will probably then want smash and stab anyway as they use identical methods. However, if you do this then you're thinking as a magician. Focus on which of the two will suit your audeince and go for that one only.

If you do a fair bit of stage work then this is the size to get. Otherwise go for the regular as it will probably be more portable for close up. I don't think that there is that much difference between the two in terms of size anyway.

I think that Five of Hearts now do a combi set that includes BOTH smash and stab as well as Bish Bash Bosh and it's cheaper than buying both sets seperately.

The only difference is that in the combi set you can use the three spare coasters for both routines whereas bought seperately you will have six.(trying to word this without exposing the secret).

It may be worth giving Colin a call if it's not on their web site.

As a few other members have said it all depends on your audience?

Do you normally perform just close up or stage, parlor, platform?

Bish bash bosh= is intended for kids or the kind of venue where a man (or woman) implaling there hand upon a metal spike is not enjoyed.

Saying that what venue would? hmm an S & M Dungeon perhaps?

Anyho Colin Rose at fiveofheartsmagic.co.uk
now sells a conbo version thats both bish bash and smash stab

The only thing i would say is, Wayne Dobson is a total legend and Colin Rose also is a master and i would always not give a second thought to any product with there names upon.

I have had Smash and stab (stage) for many years now and it has served me very well indeed. And with a little modiforcation (sorry cant spell) in the presentation it is possible to perform blindfolded, thou this does highten the risk factor, if you keep your wits about you all double/ triple check you'll be fine. All in all i love this product BUT this may only be on my personal product but my version of the plinths (four without spikes one with) the one with the spike is discoloured? :? and has been since the day it arrived. this is only a minor point and is most probs only on my version.

Apart from that id say full steam ahead buy smash and stab its a nice version of the popuar roulette routine

hope this kind of helps

Sam

I can't imagine making Smash and Stab any more risky than it already is! Remember that there may be occasions when you're below par for whatever reason - and it's then that calamity may occur.
I find the method for S&S and BBB painfully obvious, and for sure many punters will do too, though they are likely to play along. When considering these routines, I think Scott Alexander's excellent "Shattered" should be considered. It's much more theatrical, and 100% safe. Plus, the method means no layman is ever going to be able to deconstruct this, when performer properly.
It's available on Scott's "Midnight Show" DVD - highly recommended!
