Highlighting search results

Postby gillows » Oct 20th, '09, 12:34

Don't know if it's just me, but when I do a forum search here and go to one of the results threads, the keywords don't show as highlighted in the posts.

Mods, There is a plugin for PHP BB that lets you assign a colour to keywords if this version of BB does not have it.

This is quite a big forum now and filtering all the posts looking for your search criteria can be quite daunting without this feature.

If that can be added next time the site gets a face lift it would be mucho appreciated. Or am I missing something? :?

Ooh, I hate highlighted words! I'm in another forum that highlights search words, and always have to reload the page (minus search specifics) to get those blasted highlights switched off.

But if other people want highlights, I won't stand in their way. I don't run searches all that often anyway.

(As long as you're on the right page, you should be able to use your browser's search function to find a specific word.)

Highlighted keywords is a great idea. Makes the whole process much easier. Otherwise it's a little pointless.

@ Robbie,
Yeah, I agree they can get a bit annoying if you are looking for a commonly used word on a forum, but it means you can cut down time reading non relevant posts in threads that go on and on.

I'll point the Forum Owner in the direction of this post, no guarantees of course, but the Search function was uprated not too long ago to incorporate the Google Search aspect.
