My personal theory (if I may) is that you shouldnt open with a card effect. I used to open with cards, but I found that a lot of people were immediately turned off by a pack of cards being thrust into their face.

I always open at any table/group etc with a sponge rabbit routine - I think that the cuteness of such actually makes it easier to win over a group. My card routine is my third and final piece in my set.

However, having said that (and as I say this is just how I work and in no way is a put down to your way) I very much like your 3 phase opening card sequence, and I will deffinately be using it to introduce my pack into the set.

Like I say, a VERY nice set of notes - deffinately a 10 out of 10.

Lee, when I get my notes finished I will send you a copy - id love to know your thoughts!

Mark

I quess its all personal preference, I think if anyone has a good persona you can open anyway you like, sometimes I end up just chatting for a bit after i have introduced myself.

As long as your comfortable, it took me along time to realise that the magic comes second, I find if they like you there should be no problem.

Thanks again Mark, and I look really forward to seeing your notes.

Lee.

Everyone has their own way of doing things - if we didn't then our industry would be a very boring one with every Tom, Dick and Harry dong the exact same routine!

I love looking at the notes of other workers though - who needs the celebrity magicians, they know nothing about a real world setting!!

Wow, the great reviews 'forced' me to hit my paypal button. There must some kind of in-built hypnosis lurking in this forum - or maybe I'm in a good mood because I sold a few of my cartoon books today.

I'm a speaker and I use magic (occasionally) to illustrate points and some strolling stuff for lighter moments.

But, but ... I am no finger-flicking dazzler; I can do flushtration, elmsley and d-lift - and my patter is good. I do hope there are things i can use ....... (promise to self: this is my last purchase this year.....)

Cheers
Will

Poor kids going without presents this year waldorf or completed your Xmas shopping already :)

I like others lecture notes the best I've ever bought (so far) were the Mark Shortland ones, he gave the tricks which were awesome and not the patter to go with it as such so you make up your own which is a great idea.

Anyhoo i am tempted by these myself, I mean what's a tenner? Not even 3 pints down the pub

Looking forward to more reviews, I just prefer something to hold in my hands (IB) when learning

Hi All

I have only really skimmed these notes so can't give a proper review, but I have seen Lee perform all the stuff tons of times and know how well it hits (I also perform some of it myself, even though I am a mentalist at heart).

Hanging around with Lee has made me a better magician and performer by several hundred percent, and if you only get a fraction of that from these notes, they truly are killer value.

James

The opener is a personal choice and my own choice is to start with something other than cards.

However, experience will perhaps influence your choice as your opener should be something that you're very very comfortable performing - something that you could do with your eyes closed and in a deep sleep. If that happens to be a card trick then go for it.

If you're still building experience then your opener is your confidence builder. NEVER do anything that you stand a chance of screwing up.

I Agree with Dat,

As I mention in the lecture I have try'd so many things over the years but perform the opener I put in the notes as im so comfortable with it and it works for me, I have done it so many times and am so used to the approach that I can just concentrate on the presentation.

In the lecuture itself I spend a while on this subject. The opener works for me but can also be used as three stand alone effects. This way I can change the routine at any phase.

Just find what your most comfortable performing with and use it to your advantage, anything you can do without thinking about it and thats quick and visual will make for a good opener.

Just also remember that what we think are great effects as magicians is not always what the spectator thinks, anyone who does sponge balls (rabbits) will know what I mean. And never overlook the obvious simple ideas these are often the strongest to laymen.

I have spent years learning and performing complex sleight of hand, and yet I get a bigger reaction for and effect I use with two lighters and a P***le move that I learned in about an hour. I could perform card to wallet, watch steal, read thier minds for an hour and they will still say do that one with the lighters again.

Point is as I said before everything I put in these notes is aimed at all skill levels, and is simple yet powerfull workable stuff that laymen love.

Just find your own way of using some of these effects and you should have an impromptu set with you all the time.

P.S
Due to all the response I have had the site updated with a full list of the effects here.

I just started reading through the lecture notes, loving them so far. I printed them out and put them in a nice binder and have been playing around with some of the first few pages, really nice stuff.

Hopefully I'll work through the whole thing through this week and I'll drop a better review on here then, but so far, really good material for a tenner!
