As suspected, this has been running for 24 hours now and the longest anyone has stayed in there is a minute.

Is it safe to say that the people here who thought a chatroom was a wonderful idea have changed their mind?

People are all talk and no action. Or, in this case, all action and no talk.

Chatrooms and forums do not mix very well.

Forums are about suggesting an idea or topic and then over a period of time people responding to them.

A chatroom is about instant (often inane) conversation.

A forum allows a discussion to seamlessly transcend timezones, a chatroom is too restrictive. If you enter a chatroom mid conversation you cannot catch up in the same way you can with a thread. As most people (like myself) I assume grab quick snatches to look at the forum during the working day or occasionally in the evening a chat room would be something that could never be used.

I have been on forums before where chatrooms have been introduced and they have either destroyed the forum or not been used.

Just my shillings worth.

We could always have a dedicated channel on IRC or something but again it's pretty pointless. I would PM someone if I wanted a discussion.

Do I need a plug in or something for it to work? My computer won't display it.

I clicked the chat link but all I got was a disclaimer. (I'm online via PS3 and certain things don't work on it.) How about a talk magic facebook page? That has a chat feature although once again facebook doesn't work on my PS3 so someone else will have to set it up.

The chat room uses java, so you will need to use a browser that supports that. It will pop up asking you if you accept it's credentials, just choose yes.

And there is already a talkmagic facebook group.
