Chat Feature

Postby IrieMagic » Nov 30th, '09, 21:08

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, sorry if it has. I think a live chat feature would be good so that everyone who is online can talk to each other.
Just an idea

I'll second this, it would be pretty useful to discuss some things in real-time.

Indeed 'twas mentioned several times many moons ago and, if I remember right, things like MS or AOL Chat services and similar were seen to be already in use and preferred. I doubt it's a feature which can be added to TM at the moment.

From a development and resourses standpoint it's a pretty big deal in my experience.

Most people who want to be contacted have an msn or aim account in their profile anyway, and in my experience are always more than happy to chat to other magicians.

(Out of the 16 or so people showing up online on my list right now for example, 7 are magicians)

I also had a chat room set up for here for a while too, but in the most part it was never really used so I shut it down. If it's something people think they would actually use I can set it up again.

There might some sort of chat widget that might be able to be put on the home page of TM.

If you search in google a few come up.

live chat things.. good in theory, but from my journeys around the web visiting magic forums, i note that nobody uses them that much.

And if you do happen to see someone in a room, you end up babbling on about nothing, or repeating what you have just posted in a thread.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Maybe it could be tried out for a week or so and see how it goes.

It's been brought up time and time again, and very good reasons not to given time and time again. Use the search :)

As I said, if it will be used, I will set it up again. It will only take me 10 minutes.

Well I'd definately use it, there's five of us here who seem keen. Maybe there are others? We could do a poll on the forum somewhere and if it didn't get enough support then no harm, no foul.

Okay then!

Chatroom Here

This chatroom is not endorsed by talkmagic.co.uk etc etc etc. If anyone here has a problem with anything there drop me a PM and I will deal with it. Please be aware that as this chat is a seperate entity, there is no way of ensuring that the person you are talking to is who they say they are unless they have registered their nick name. (I have registered mine, and it's 'oeb') Don't do anything stupid like give out your password to someone just because they are using the nickname of a moderator here or anything.
