Spell check

Postby Le Petit Bateleur » Dec 7th, '09, 06:30

Is there a spell check functionality available on this forum? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

If not, would the Mods consider adding it?

I've seen that on other forums, it's very useful, and I guess it's nicer to read a post without spelling mistakes, and less embarrassing to send one too

After that, no excuses

Sadly there isn't a spell checker at the moment, apparently the only way to add one is to buy one in and even then there's no guarantee that people would use it so the best suggestion is to compose messages in Word or even Outlook, use their built in checkers then copy and paste.

If you use firefox web browser you can set up a spell check for it. Doesn't check grammar, punctuation etc. but flags up spelling errors. Make sure it's set to the correct version of English for you though!

Same here.

I once had a dyslexic manager who spell checked everything but then never checked it afterwards. The company I worked for had the acronym ANL, which she had used, correctly, several times throughout her memo. Needless to say spellchecker had made it an entertaining read.

La Petit - Google Chrome has a built in spell checker as a standard function.

Or,quite simply, we could all learn the art of spelling correctly and, God forbid, a little grammar! I do not mean to chastise or show arrogance. We all make mistakes and could learn to show tolerance of others. What does it really matter? Is it not just as learned skill - like magic? Forgive me; I am old. Bless me! I just used a semi-colon! Has anyone ever wondered why that symbol is on your keyboard? As I said, I am old!

Or end commands in general?

Valid point though, spellcheckers have made people very lazy with language.

Some of the text messages I have received from my sister are indecipherable.
