Uri Geller - Psychic or sorcerer

Postby support » May 24th, '04, 16:43

Uri Geller has intrigued me for many years!!

Personally, I have always been of the mind that he is nothing more than a magician, albeit an exceptional magician!

Today, I have read an article by Colin Wilson who is an authority and one of Britain's most respected writers on the paranormal. In his research, he has studied the history of magic so he is effectively not a lay person. He firmly believes that Uri Geller is not a fraud and states that Uri has proven this time and time again.

Alternatively, I recall seeing Uri on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here". He had the opportunity to prove his "gift" was real as he had no facility for electronic devices, ear pieces, stooges etc........ It was no surprise to me that he didn't prove me wrong here!!

Love to hear your thoughts on this!

Regards
Laurence

He has often been placed under Lab conditions and been unable to do anything and you can buy books to learn how to do anything he does.
That doesn't say he isn't for real I guess, like doing a great mentalism trick followed by a card trick, I think he ruined his image with all the I will help England win the world cup stuff and the place your hand here and concentrate stuff.

It is a shame really we need more mystery in our lives.

as a tarot card reader, (well rune cards actualy), and I'm a magician that does mentalism / spirit reading tricks so i would say that uri and myself have a lot in common.

we both started out as psychics in a basic way with premonitions and dreams and both progressed onm to have a talent for reading people, i sumize that we both then studied our crafts which of course will have brought us into the magic field.

thus when i do a reading for someone i have to tell them that i am a magician so that if i do an acurate reading then i cant be sure if its the magic half reading your body lanquage for clues or my psychic half recieving vibrations and such, so i personaly think uri is genuine but may be useing magical principles he has learnt subliminaly and may feel he needs backup in a test condition, because he is not confident he can use his skills consistantly which is the bane of most psychics and sharletan's alike. 8)

I guess I've been reading too much of James Randi and Banachek's stuff, but I'm a skeptic when it comes to anyone claiming to be psychic. That's just my opinion, though. With that bias I'll have to say that Uri Gellar is a good showman, but not the real deal - if there is such a thing. There's a good book by Ben Harris called 'Gellerism Revealed' which exposes much of Geller's stuff.
On the one hand I'm grateful to guys like Gellar cos it makes stuff like spoon bending a lot more believable to the general public, but on the other hand I get angry with them for trying to make people believe that what they do is real. Especially guys like John Edwards who prey on bereaved people.
Once again, though, that's just my opinion..

Definately a magician, I met him twice, once at the magic circle and once at the IBM convention, (or it was Ron Mc Millans and Blackpool, so long ago I forget the details) He was a guest of David Berglass on one or both of those occasions.

Uri Geller's a magic performer, an entertainer, no matter how hard he's claiming his psychic ability. There are lost of publications in the magic communities, confirming that Geller's using the common trick of mentalism. It's not something new. It's just the way he always deny the use of magic tricks that make him so controversial, and also popular at the same time.

I'm with you Doreen.

He's nothing more than a mentalist and performer. Saying that, i think his act stinks of late.

Latching onto anything for publicity. I wouldn't go round claiming to have made Beckham miss the recent Euro penalty - because he got his 'energies' mixed up.

And he's conveniently distanced himself from Jacko since the pale faced clown prince is looking at a stretch in chokey. (Still, no more dodgy CDs for a bit hopefully)

No wonder David Blaine distanced himself from Uri 'bender' Geller after he came out the glass box. Uri visited him every day, using DBs stunt to keep in the public eye.

The only reason Uri's bending properties ever took off over here is because he has an accent. Addds a bit of mystery, so we fell for it. Imagine if he were from Doncaster!
"Eee heck lad, look. it's bloody bending a tell thee"

Do us all a favour Uri. Do like any decent chap and lie low. Stop parading round with this bag of broken dreams.

Be happy with Panto.

He was in the newspaper last week saying that David Beckhams missed penalty was hi fault

He'll do anything to get into the papers, he's like Jordan without the silicon.
