You must be careful when moving small objects like a pen to make sure to use the force start and "Set it Free" which will cause a disconnect in their minds from your hands. If you do not, you are pointing to the method in an obvious way, which is exactly why those two techniques are taught on the DVD. If you cannot seem to master those, move to larger objects which also helps people be amazed.

I was at a birthday party the other day and there was a very long and large cutting knife. I picked it up, prepared it then called everyone's attention to it as I set it on top of a smooth surface (Large sparkling water bottle with metal cap)
I used the force start and slowly...slowly, the knife began to move. It built up speed and after several rotations, I dropped my hands to my side smiling as the knife continued to spin through 2 more revolutions with my hands nowhere near it. That is what you can do when you use the force start, move larger items, and set them free. practice it until you believe it yourself, then you are ready to perform it. -Matt

Here is a great recent comment about SPIN. It made my day. Enjoy! -Matt Sconce

I have to say that of all the effects and tricks I know, Spin constantly gets me the best reactions. Specs who see me perform all the time constantly say something along the lines of "that last trick you did was amazing, but I just know there is something sneaky I'm not seeing. But THIS one (Spin) is real magic. You are a real magician." I even had someone ask me if I had a spirit helper! And the best part of Spin is, it is totally impromptu. It can be done just about anywhere in any situation. I love it. I've said it before and I'll say it again....thanks Matt for this one...it's fantastic! -Jeffy225

Here is a GREAT story and review from a skeptical buyer of SPIN that was posted on the cafe. I love hearing these stories involving families doing magic together and thought I would share. Enjoy! -Matt Sconce

DeWayne from Cafe wrote wrote:Just got back from a convention where my son and I purchased the Spin DVD (directly from Paper Crane booth) after seeing it demonstrated with a huge vacuum nozzle attachment. The rest of the weekend I'm just thinking "too good to be true". Got home late my son went straight to bed, I stayed up and watched half the DVD. After the first 7 minutes I'm thinking I've been suckered. Then I pick up the bottle of nail polish sitting on my coffee table and the pen they gave us at the convention. Badda bing...first try. I amazed myself! Spinning just like the video. I go to bed. Show my son (this kind of thing is more up his alley) first thing when he gets up. His jaw drops! We discuss wether I'm going to show him or he's going to watch the DVD. He wins, I show him what to do (after I only watched 1/2 the DVD the night before). He's doing it in minutes. About 10 minutes later he shows it to his mom using a full two liter of Mt. DeW and a pen off his dresser. This is a woman who has been our guinea pig for new stuff for twenty five years. She has no problem busting our chops when she sees stuff. SPIN - NOT A CLUE! My son had it going so long I told him to stop before he gave the method away. She still didn't know. My son says, "I feel like I really have magical powers".

I only post this as I really did feel like there was NO WAY this DVD was coming close to the copy. It was my "long shot" purchase at the convention. The ad copy actually bugged me enough to stay up to see the method. The long shot paid off...it's one of our winning things from this convention.

I bought this against my better judgement and I was praying that it wasn't done in the way I thought it was. It was. I sighed. Then, when watching a free to air regular internet programme that will remain nameless 'xxxx xxxxxx', this effect was done and exlained by the presenter. I sighed even louder than before. Then, I showed the effect to that cynical old bat I live with who keeps describing herself as, 'my wife.' She immediately told me the method. My final sigh could be heard several streets away. All of this is true, except I left out the bit where I repeatedly banged my head against a wall and promised not to buy any more magic DVD's.

To cheer myself up, I went on line bought an Osterlind DVD.......Doh!!!!!!

Frankly, this piece seriously ticked me off in that it's a 5th grade science demonstration . . . I actually learned it when I was in the 5th grade which was 1970 or there about.

Paper Crane puts out a lot of questionable products but this is certainly the most criminal piece they've produced thus far. The company has a grotesque sense of inability when it comes to honesty and giving credit to routines where that credit is due; Power Word Fall comes from a Losander lecture for an example. Portions of their Bleeding Eyes & Bleeding Palms/finger-tips comes from several Bizarre Magick sources including my own published notes "Stigmata" from the late 1990s. The list goes on from there with noted personalities of Mentalism and Bizarre Magick loudly expressing concern, starting with Paolo Cavalli one of the crafts most respected innovators (now retired).

SPIN is a variation to the old PSI SPINNER made popular in the 1960s (maybe even earlier), a simple piece of foil sat on a needle point beneath a bell dome type glass and yet, one could make it spin left or right at "will". . . the late Ted Lesley actually put out a version of this a few years prior to his passing (that works on an alternate method, I should add).

One other thing I'll point out about Paper Crane that Paolo brought to my attention a couple of years ago. Seems that these clowns are so impressed with their video production that they share the complete reels -- the full secrets we pay for -- on a few forums dealing with video techniques, editing, etc. for the sake "feed back". . . yet, we're looking at exposure not to mention duplicity; taking our money while giving the information away for free to a different group.

I honestly admired this company at first glance but the material I've seen from them as well as the various practices they are proven to follow, gripes me to no end. . . and it's something I've shared more than a few times over the past few years, so as they say, "Buyer Beware!"
