What they say:

The Radar Deck is an amazing tool that allows you to predict playing cards that your spectator's have merely thought of. Suitable for all performing venues - close-up, platform or parlour - The Radar Deck will be a highlight of your show once you harness its diabolical secrets.

Besides the very special Bicycle-brand deck, you'll also receive a twenty-page booklet that details the exact routine Richard Osterlind uses in his professional work along with all of the handling nuances that have made The Radar Deck such a powerful part of his shows.

Here is a performance taken from Mind Mysteries Vol 2.

The Real Effect:
The Mentalist asks 4 people to step forward and asks them to think of a card that they see. The Mentalist shows each person around a quarter of the deck and they can select ANY card they see. They don't take anything out, touch anything or have to do and writing down. After asking 2 questions, the performer then names everyones card, with peoples reactions escalating each time.

Not only that but the performer then names some cards that people NEARLY thought of!!!, it really is that clean, and impressive in the eyes of the spectator.

Cost: £12.99
This is for a custom made deck which is pre-made and contains instructions. The gimmick can be made for cheaper if you have the Mind Mysteries 2 disc and are aware of how the effect works.

Difficulty:
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

The Radar Deck is a difficult effect to gauge. For some people it may be a little difficult at first to balance all of the parts necessary, and for others it may come naturally if they have done The ID enough. I will say that you need to be able to calculate up to 6 cards, in your head, whilst revealing them in whatever matter you choose. Personally I found it relatively easy to work this out, but at the start I found it a little difficult to perform convincingly. The performance is what will really sell this effect, and you will need to be either some Psychic/Psychological performer for this to be convincing and not just a little puzzle.

Looking at all of this personally I would give this effect a 2/3 out of 5.

Review:

Bottom Drawer Factor:
I ALWAYS perform this effect. ALWAYS. Whether it is for large groups of up to 40, or just for one person, this is a killer effect and using a deck switch during some misdirection it is always something that makes people believe in your "Abilities". As it is a deck of cards as well, you can carry it around with you easily and is a very straight forward plot. They think of a card... you tell them what it is.

Practicality:
Personally i don't think that the deck is very practical, as you need to spread cards a certain way, concealing things and making sure people don't see things that they shouldn't.

Overall:
This is an effect worthy of any Mentalists repertoire, and one that a few "Psychics" and Magicians should have as well. Considering the price, this effect packs small and can floor a whole audience of people even when performed on stage. However from personal research and performing in various environments, I can say that this effect works best in a Cabaret style workspace.

Rating:
An amazing effect, a great utility device, and something which you can use to wow a large audience of people as a great opening or closing effect.
9/10
