Men Who Stare at Goats

The whole psychic spy thing is my new motivation in life! I find it fascinating and have been reading broadly on the subject. Hence I am beyond stoked about this movie.

I thought it was a great movie, yet got the sense from my fellow cinema go-ers that i was in the minority. I think with the names attached and the fact that those names were wearing military uniforms, they thought it would be some kind of brainless action packed feature.

If any of that movie is true, then it's pretty scary. Clooney is great as always but it's worth it just to see Jeff Bridges edge closer to reprising his role of The Dude.

Amazon Clicky!

A bit of a "dry" read, but fascinating none the less.

Also, it's still going on to this day:

I'd like to read the book, but the reviews I read of the film (Telegraph and Fortean Times) said it was well worth avoiding. Of course, you seldom get a good result trying to make a narrative out of a non-fiction (or "non-fiction") book.

Let's see... It was the 1970s. It was, shall we say, a time of "leftfield" Cold War mumbo jumbo projects. They thought they could kill goats by simply staring at them in a special way. Probability of a manic self-publicist performer trying to take credit or assert that something real was happening: 99% (+/- 1%) :D

It's also on my Love Film list. Ronson makes incredibly good telly (and not enough of it if you ask me). Let's hope they've not mucked it up too much in telling the original story.

I have read the book and seen the film all in the same weekend. Trust me when I say this from the bottom of my heart -

The film stinks. But it only stinks because...

The book is the best thing I have read in a very, very long time. The film could never do the book justice. The book is unbelievably funny and incredibly scary. I would say it is a must read, particularly for anyone with any kind of interest in psychics, mind reading, the CIA and Military Intelligence, clairvoyance, mentalism, and the sheer insanity that is the US Army post 9/11.

It's available from Amazon. I read it in 24 hours. Go buy it.

To be honest the film looks very bad, but the idea is nice. I believe they made Gellar 'whipe a compact disk with his mind'.

Ofcourse thats the ONLY explanation....

Well, the film is okay. It's just rubbish compared to the book. Nothing in the book or film about Uri Geller wiping a compact disk, either with his mind or a damp cloth.
