Disclosure: I edited it so I may be biased...

That said, it's a goodie. Paul's applied his usual ultra-deep level of thought.

I bought this yesterday and it's very good indeed. Based on a long standing and very workable principle which most of us will know, this is something the mentalist can have ready to hand for any occasion. Paul supplies his usual full script but leaves oddles of room to vary it as much as you like.

I've performed it a few times since Mr Brook told me a while ago and I can say that it does get good reactions. Got the PDF yesterday and can see a good few improvements I can make as well

Just ordered now... waiting for mine to come through

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Very good. I got it last night (instant service!) and agree with all the positive vibes. Ideally, though, you need an extra 'something' that not everyone will have (I don't have). That can be overcome but it the 'easy' description title and the words 'all you need is a pen and two cards' are a tad misleading.

However, that can be overcome and the cheeky idea is worth the money.

In Pauls defence, he doesnt say that you only use two cards and a pen..

The wording tells me that this is all the spectators see.

Maybe Ted could look into this, just to clarify things? :)

You are stood between two people who are either good friends, or in a relationship. In this instance it is a man and woman who are married.

The man is given a business card and asked to think of any two digit number and to secretly write it on the business card, but not to show anyone.

His wife also has a business card containing around forty numbers written on the back. She is asked to select any four of the numbers and add them up, silently.

On the click of your fingers both parties will name the number he and she is thinking of.

A few moments pass.

You click your fingers.

Man and Wife both shout out "eighty three" at the same time!

Both are utterly shocked beyond speech.

Not only that, but as a meaningful keepsake the man can keep his card, and the woman can keeps hers.

But is it a mystical connection, or a sharing of their psychologies!

Not a bad effect for two business cards and a marker pen…

That's right. But also, you don't actually *need* any equipment other than that mentioned in the blurb. It might help if you have a certain something, but it's not essential by any means.

It might be worth pointing out that this is not a complete effect in and of itself.

You will need other materials - optionally other equipment, but certainly other books on mentalism, one of which he suggests.

It does, however, look pretty damn good - I'll give it a whirl sometime soon.

Not trying to be picky Dale, but Paul's intro says "the most wonderful thing is that it just requires 2 of your business cards and a marker pen". That's a bit ambiguous.

Anyway, I'll drop the subject.

I hate ambigious phrasing, so I shall clear it up:

You do only need 2 pieces of card and a pen. However, if that is the case you will also requre memory work and technical ability.

Or.

You may just happen to have a certain item laying around in your magic drawer, or even use it in gigs already. If you do it makes it easier, but this item is definitely not needed at all.

It is very much like PK Touches with and without loops. You can do it without loops, but more people prefer to use them to make it "easier"

Love

Well, if you can work out a decent impromptu handling (which I think I have - I'll need to try this out under fire), then you can do this effect without any "props" at all - just two things to write on (napkins, for instance) and a pen. This will require some memorisation, but then what routine doesn't?

It's pretty straightforward technically, and as with most of Paul Brook's effects, there's nothing truely new here, just a decent, practical application of some old principles, with a lot of thought on scripting and the intimate details that make something like this work really well. This, of course, is why I really like Paul's thinking.

Other than the (unstated) fact that this is not performable out of the box - i.e. if you just purchased this manuscript in isolation then you would not be able to peform this effect - I'd have no qualms in promoting this effect.

There is an optional requirement for a common mentalism prop, to details this would give away some of the workings, but it is not necessary. Probably a good idea though.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

Its a lovely application of an existing principle. Once again Paul gives you an oppertunity not only to perform a great routine, but able to change the way people feel. This is a very emotive piece, perfect for special occasions with a high emotional attachment. Depending on your performace you could have something very very special here... but like I say... the method exists and its starting you in the face screaming "USE ME!!!"...but you really are going to struggle to beat this presentation.

Congrats Mr Brook !
