Pete at Edinburgh Fringe 2010

Postby pcwells » Thu Jun 10, 2010 7:32 pm

Hi everyone!

The official Edinburgh Fringe programme goes public tomorrow, so I feel justified in posting my news here now.

I'm doing not one... but TWO different shows this year - a late-night mentalism show and a family orientated magic show in the afternoons!

Details as follows:

...for the grown-ups...

PSYCHIC?
Laughing Horse @ The City Cafe (Venue 85)
19 Blair Street, Edinburgh

16 August – 29 August 2010
11.30pm (50mins)
FREE

Peter Campbell-Wells returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to blow big raspberries at the serious po-faced world of psychic entertainment. Mind-reading and clairvoyance is absurd and Pete's show revels in the daftness of it all. Classic feats of psychic prowess are sent on idiotic tangents with Pete's irreverent spin and utter disregard for tradition. Remote viewing, thought reading and fortune telling methods are crudely exploited for the simple and vulgar aims of raising a giggle.

Pete’s disregard for the sensibilities of others doesn’t stop at the new-age believers, however. He’s equally happy to poke fun at the new generation of evangelical sceptics, who seem bent of asserting their righteousness while sapping the fun and mystery from anything remotely odd. Just for them, he proudly wears the label of ‘Psychic’!

‘Campbell-Wells clearly has a talent for
reading people (or is actually psychic...)’
ThreeWeeks

‘Peter Campbell-Wells?
Never heard of him but I feel he will be great someday!’
Uri Geller

...and for families...

Peter Campbell-Wells Bravely Attempts...
The Classics Of Magic!
...What could possibly go wrong?

Laughing Horse @ The Counting House (Ballroom) - Venue 170
38 West Nicolson Street

16 August – 29 August 2010
2.30pm (50mins)
FREE SHOW

Peter Campbell-Wells brings his thoroughly unorthodox presentation of Magic’s greatest illusions to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010. The show will feature cups, balls, rings, ropes... even a family-friendly bullet catch... but definitely NO BUNNIES!

Magicians worldwide spend years perfecting these classics. Pete didn't have time to practice but what could possibly go wrong? With a bag of goodies fresh from the magic shop, Pete will dazzle and confound you with the greatest magic effects ever devised, while madly hoping that his rushed preparation and general ineptitude don't ruin the bullet catch. This is a family show, for kids and grown-ups alike.

Got my guide through today and circled al the magic and comedy I'll be watching. Unfortunately, I can only be there until the 13th, so I'm gonna miss out on this one. Good luck with it though!

Best of luck sweetcakes.

You really are an inspiration to me and I so wish I could come.

Having heard all about the dangers you will be facing on the bullet catch it really is not one to miss if you can see it.

I point the car North early tomorrow morning, and do my first show late Monday night.

Hope to see some friendly faces there!

Good luck. Sadly I'm not in easy-to-travel-to distance of Edinburgh, I like the sound of the family show :)

Hi all!

Just a quick log-in while I'm checking emails in Edinburgh.

So far I've been having a blast. There's a blog of sorts here.

Saw Mr Grue at the show last night - thanks for coming! Sorry I didn't get a chance to speak to you afterwards, as I had to pack up and clear out in time for the next show to take the stage. Hope you enjoyed it though!

Cheers,

Pete

You, sir, have the hottest venue on the planet. And the weirdest audience! That said, the show was great fun. Great to finally see the boiled sweet effect. Lovely to see some genuine "Oh, f___ off!" reactions from the punters.

I don't know where you find the courage, though. It occured to me yesterday that probably most of the mentalism shows are on in the morning or early afternoon to avoid just the sort of audiences you've set out to play to. As good as the morning shows are, you've had the strongest reactions I've seen so far here, including Barry & Stuart.

One of the Fringe review sites actually sent one of their reviewers to my show! And they wrote a review. And it got published!

This tends not to happen to me at the Edinburgh Fringe, so please excuse my giddy excitement!

You can read it here!

No need to excuse anything Pete, it sounds as though you put on a top quality show and that's something to be very proud of. The rest of the universe needs to know that there's more than one way of presenting mentalism and it can be entertaining as well as spooky  . Well done!!!
