Thanks Madrake. I have been meaning to post something for ages now (yes I saw the typo but decided to leave it)

Full details can be found on the website page

There will be three lectures:-
Nick Einhorn (who wrote one of my all time favourite magic books)
Richard McDougal who's lecture and I have heard such great things of, and I simply got fed up with people telling me I had to book him
Danny Archer from the USA - a legend.

Also during the day there will be another Michael J. Fitch hosted event, this time "The Serious Business of Comedy" feature an open discussion with John Archer and Graham P. Jolley", two of the only people who make comedy mentalism work (and boy oh boy are they good!)

Plus of course a variety of dealers to keep everyone happy.

As for the evening show, that is something I am very proud of, as well as the guests mentioned above, Shahid Malik will be there performing some of his unique illusions. How did we get him? I am not sure - but I suspect someone is sleeping with someone...

Anyway as usual it would be great if we saw some more TM faces this year. They are always a great day of magic.

I have had a few enquiries from people asking about cheap hotels in the area.

We have an arrangement with the Marleborough Hotel, which is where all the lecturers and performers will be staying over night. If you mention you are there for the Ipswich Magical Society Convention you will get the special rate too.

The marlborough is in walking distance and overlooks the sea.

Sounds like the Marlborough is the place to be!

I'll be down there sometime on the Saturday and I repeat my offer of last year to treat every TM member I meet to a drink.... I still have the tea bags....

It all happens this Sunday - there are still tickets left. It would be great to see more TM faces - especially with the amazing line up we have.

Graham P. Jolley was talking to me earlier about his time on Opportunity Knocks he has some fantastic stories which will be great to hear on the day.

Also, breaking news, Paul Gordon has just agreed to be a dealer and he is always a great asset to have at any convention.

so with the line up we have this year I have no doubts it will be another amazing day...

Yet another superb convention and full marks to the Ipswich guys (and gals) for organising such a great day.

The lecture from Danny Archer started the day off well, plenty of effects and explanations from a very likeable performer. Nic Einhorn presented a wide range of magic and his enthusiasm for his art was very clear to see. The lecture from Richard McDou8gall was unusual – no tricks, no explanations, no notes or items on sale, just solid instruction and motivation in how to perform, where to look, why and how to present yourself as a performer. Such instruction is priceless and applies to a lot more than just the world of magic.

Nic Einhorn performed his close up act and it’s easy to see why he’s so in demand, all gobsmacking stuff! The Serious Business of Comedy was presented by Michal J Fitch with Graham P Jolley and John Archer on the receiving end of the questions. Of course, things went off a tangent quite regularly but Graham was encouraged to give a swift demo of the manipulation work he used to do as a very young magician alonbg with anectodtes from the time he was ‘disocvered’ (and underpaid!) by Hughie Green on Opportunity Knocks.

John Archer treated us all to a perfmance of ‘Street’, his map book test and although he insisted it’s still very much work in progress with more comedy to be added, it’s clear that this can be equally be done in a ‘straight’ fashion. The two performers interacted very well and were delightfully mischievous as often as possible!

The evening show was to the usual high standard, John Archer compered and performed plenty of magic in between acts – his Blank Night was almost a show in itself. Richard McDougall did two spots, the first a totally silent routine with cigarettes and matches appearing and disappearing all over the place. The second spot with his accidental date of a goose defies description but had the audience enthralled throughout. Nic Einhorn‘s stage act was superb and showed great comedy as well as stunning magic. Michael J Fitch showed just why he’s a top notch entertainer equally entertaining with magic aimed at the youngsters as well as the oldies!

Shahid Malik presented a very slick act including his signature effect whereby his wife Lisa is dropped into a cardboard box with very little room to spare and 17 or so sharp wooden poles are thrust through the box from all angles. If you’ve never seen this then I’m sure Google or YouTube can help but it’s far better seen as a live act!

The show proved that Magic can cover a very, very wide range of effects and talents and the audience that night certainly agreed. Roll on the next Ipswich Magical Society Convention!
